Default Would you believe it? Still MORE unaired cases!

I found several more unaired cases on the UM Wikia that can be added to the already huge list. Many of them have unknown airdates and will be listed separately from those that do. The ones that do have airdates are listed in chronological order. Some airdates have multiple unaired cases, indicating the these cases were most likely part of a special alert rather than each having its own segment. I've only listed the one that I'm almost positive never aired on Lifetime, so there are probably many more on the Wikia. Sit back, this is going to be a rather lengthy read.

11/2/88

* An unknown man has robbed several banks in the California area and is wanted by the police. He has been nicknamed the "Chevy Chase Bandit" because in a Beverly Hills bank robbery, he tripped over a rug and fell in a similar way to how Chevy Chase tripped and fell on Saturday Night Live before saying "Live from New York".

Update: Captured. When the segment aired a second time, a viewer recognized the bank photos of the bandit and contacted the FBI. The bandit, identified as Bernard Stick, was arrested on April 26, 1989 in Marina Del Ray.

2/8/89

* Lena Regina Smith (yes, that's her name) was sentenced to 8 to 15 in prison in Massachusetts in 1971 for manslaughter, larceny, assault, and prostitution after she allegedly killed a client to whom she was selling herself. She escaped from prison on 8/27/76 and is sought by authorities.

Update: Captured. In November of 1993, Smith, whose real name was later determined to be Valerie Osborne, was arrested in Commerce City, Colorado. She was being investigated by authorities for selling stolen vacuum cleaners when authorities realized that she was a wanted fugitive, and she was arrested. She was returned to Massachusetts and the same prison that she had escaped from seventeen years earlier.

* In November of 1958, Thomas Pendergast was driving to El Cajon, California when he picked up a 16 year old hitchhiker named Carl Alfred Eder and let him stay with his family. On December 12, 1958, Thomas left for work, and during the day, Carl murdered his entire family. He claimed it was because one of the children was annoying him and he flipped out. Thomas's wife Lois, their 4 year old daughter Diane, 2 year old Allen, 6 year old Thomas Jr., and 9 year old David were all stabbed and slashed to death by Eder.

He was arrested two days later, convicted of first degree murder, and was sentenced to two life terms. Then, in 1974, he walked out of a minimum security prison in California and has not been seen since.

* In 1979, Thomas Noss was convicted of first degree murder, indecent assault and rape of his 21 year old girlfriend Elizabeth Ann Landy, who vanished in December of 1971. In November of 1983, he and drug manufacturer Hans Vorhaurer escaped from a Pennsylvania prison through a trunk that was delivered out of the prison. Vorhaurer was later caught, but Noss remains at large.

Update: Captured. In 1990, he was located in Michigan and had a wife and two children. He was returned to the Pennsylvania prison, where he remains incarcerated.

* In 1979, convicted serial rapist Joseph Mancini was sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years. On March 19, 1987, he escaped from a prison near Las Vegas while hidden in a van. He is 5'8" and 160 pounds.

2/22/89

* During the 1970s, San Diego attorney Walter Wenke purchased companies with little assests or business and sold stock in them. He then transferred money from those companies to his, and stole millions of dollars. In April of 1978, he was convicted of mail fraud charges in those cases, but vanished while free on bail.

* Denslow is wanted in connection with embezzling money from a bank in Alma, Michigan, where he was vice president and chief loans officer. Enslow drew checks from a one million dollar line of credit. When his attempt to place money into two bogus accounts failed on November 7, 1985, he vanished. He took $110,000 with him, and eleven days later, his car was found abandoned at a nearby airport.

Update: Captured. On August 7, 1989, Denslow was arrested in Gardnerville, Nevada, as a result of a viewer tip. Denslow was working as a shipping supervisor at a paint manufacturing plant under the alias Ralph Joseph Westindorf.

9/27/89

* Robert Dennie was put on the FBI's 10 most wanted list for several charges: Murder, attempted murder, theft, forgery, robbery, rape, escape, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. He disappeared after he raped and attempted to murder a woman in September of 1989.

Update: Captured. Dennie was captured in Florida on November 17, 1989 with the help of Unsovled Mysteries viewers tips.

* Melvin Edward Mays is wanted for terror conspiracy on behalf of Libya. He was also a member of the El Rufkins street gang in Chicago and has not been seen since 1986.

Update: Captured. In March of 1995, Mays was arrested by the FBI in Chicago. He was charged with 40 counts of conspiracy of terrorism.

* In 1984, Leslie Isben Rogge robbed a bank in Key Largo, Florida, and was soon arrested. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, but escaped from a Idaho penetentiary one year later. He began robbing several banks, with one of the latest in North Carolina in 1986. He is still at large.

Update: Captured. In May of 1996, Rogge surrendered in Guatemala and was convicted of several robberies. He is now serving a 65 year sentence.

3/28/90

* Elmer Locker Jr. was the owner of "The Ball", a private Gentlemen's Club in Santa Monica, CA from 1964 to 1985. He was arrested after he was discovered in connection with John and Cecilia Kealing with a deadly and highly dangerous meth lab. His parents helped to bail him out of jail by putting up their house as collateral, but Elmer jumped bail and went on the run. His parents now run the risk of losing their house if Elmer is not caught. Also, Elmer's brother Bob helped bail him out, along with the Kealings, and if none of them are caught, he will lose his house. (Note: I know Elmer Locker Jr. aired on Lifetime, but I don't remember any mention of the Kealing couple.)

Update: Captured. Elmer Locker Jr. was arrested in Las Vegas thanks to viewers tips. The Kealings remained fugitives until they were arrested in New Mexico in April of 1992, but their arrest was too late for Bob Locker, who lost his house as a result. They both pleaded guilty to drug manufacturing and were sentenced to ten years in prison.

4/25/90

* Jean Freeman was the foster daughter of Irwin Freeman and his wife. In 1943, Jean's biological parents took her back and he has been looking for her ever since.

9/19/90

* Lavar Bates was interviewed in an update about the capture of murderer John Mooney, who was a co-worker at his place of business. He had a daughter named Kimber Tice that he never knew about.

Update: Solved. Lavar's daughter Kimber saw the update and her mother recognized him as her father. The two spoke on the phone shortly afterwards, and were later reunited. (NOTE: There was never an actual segment about Lavar Bates. It was just the update saying that his daughter recognized him.)

1/16/91

* The Jockey Bandit is a man with a small stature who has robbed more than twenty banks near racetracks in Florida.

* In 1990, an unknown man began robbing banks in Miami, Florida. In his fifteen robberies, he used profane and abusive language, which led him to being called "Mr. Nasty" by the FBI.

Update: Captured. In September of 1991, police arrested Armando Soto after he became the prime suspect in the FBI investigation of "Mr. Nasty" due to viewer's tips.

* Police are searching for the "Mary Poppins Bandit", a middle-aged woman who has robbed four banks in Colorado in 1989 and 1990. She got her nickname for her style of dress and tendency to appear and disappear quickly.

2/6/91

* When Frank Acs was born in 1926, his mother died from illness. His father was unable to care for him and his sister, Vicki, so he gave Frank to his grandparents, and Vicki to a different relative. Years later, Frank met a cousin named Vicki at a family dinner.

During World War II, Vicki and her family moved to the United States, while Frank, his father, and grandparents stayed behind. After his father and grandparents passed away, Frank moved to the United States as well. After his wife's death in 1984, he began searching through his past and learned that Vicki was not his cousin, but actually his sister. He is now searching for his long-lost sister.

12/4/91

* Michael St. Clair was serving life in prison for two murders. St. Clair had hired a man to murder his uncle, and after his uncle was killed, St. Clair killed the hit-man. Then, on September 19, 1991, St. Clair and another prisoner named Dennis Reese, who was awaiting trial in a beating and strangulation death, escaped from the Bryan County Jail in Durant, Oklahoma and soon went on a murderous crime spree over eight different states.

The victims were 55 year old Kentucky resident Francis Chandler Bradey, murdered on October 8, 22 year old paramedic Timothy Wayne Keeling, murdered on September 27, store clerk Kathy Stoots in Milan, Tennessee, and store clerk Tammy Tidwell in Atwood, Tennessee, both which occurred just hours apart. They are now wanted fugitives.

Update: Captured. They have both been apprehended and are both serving life sentences. St. Clair is facing retrial in two counties in October 2011 and January 2012 for the death penalty that was previously overturned.

11/24/93 (possibly)

* Fifteen year old Sandy Breen ran off with her twenty two year old boyfriend, Bruce Clark, on May 22, 1964, because of her abusive and alcoholic mother who didn't even want her. Sandy and Bruce had run off once before, but Sandy's mother found her and forbade her from leaving the house except for church and school. Almost three decades later, Sandy's mother died and left all of her estate to Sandy. Now, Sandy's aunt, Jackie Daugherty, and Sandy and Bruce's friend, Darlene Jensen, are searching for them.

9/7/94

* Yves-Emmanuel Per and and his friend, Laurent Hernas, vanished at sea and were later seen with an unidentified man on their boat. The two men owned the type of catamaran coveted by drug-pushers trying to sneak past the Coast Guard. Their whereabouts and that of their craft has not been determined.

Those were all the ones with confirmed airdates that I was able to find on there, although I'm sure there are more.

The ones with unknown airdates are:

* Janice Pockett
* Springfield Three (said to be aired a quick Special Alert in September 1992)
* Sherry Lynn Marler
* Jonelle Matthews
* Jamieka Porch
* Dorothy Jane Scott
* George Decker

Feel free to add more if you happen upon them.

The Elmer Locker segment did in fact air and is available for viewing online.

I've never heard of the Carl Eder case before and bet it would have been a classic segment.

I know the Elmer Locker case aired, but was the Kealing couple ever mentioned in the Lifetime re-airings? If they were, I don't remember it.

The 2/8/89 episode was actually the 90-minute Alcatraz special. As part of the theme of the episode, they did a few brief special alerts on other wanted prison escapees Lena Regina Smith, Carl Alfred Uder, Thomas Noss and Joseph Mancini. None of these stories ever got a full segment. But I do agree, the Uder story is quite horrific and I'm surprised UM never did a full segment on it. The guy was never recaptured and I wouldn't be surprised if he is dead.

Your mention of the "Chevy Chase Bandit" caused a light bulb to go over my head, and I now remember actually seeing that segment when it originally aired and thinking it was quite amusing.

And I have seen the updated Spike version of the Per/Hernas disappearance.

The segment from 9/7/1994 has also aired on Lifetime.

I dug this out from my old Daily Episode Post from when Lifetime aired the old Robert Stack episodes:

Episode that aired 5/18/06 on Lifetime

The episode that aired on Thursday, May 18th originally aired on ? on NBC. (This was an episode that was cut together with random segments)

Cases include:

The Unexplained: The saga of a US Navy blimp that landed in a Daly City, California street without a crew in 1942. (Aired: May 19, 1993)

Unexplained Death: The unusual 1992 shooting of Military police officer Chad Langford. The army concluded he committed suicide. His family thinks he was killed in the line of duty. (Aired: February 24, 1993)

Missing Persons: The unsolved 1991 disappearance of two French sailors who were hired to convoy a catamaran worth $200,000 from Annapolis, Maryland to new owners in Guadeloupe. Authorities speculate the boat may have been hijacked by a mysterious unidentified third passenger. (Aired: September 7, 1994)

Updates: A forensic anthropologist claims she can duplicate the unique qualities of the image on the Shroud of Turin through a little-known painting method called dust drawing. (Aired: May 4, 1994?)

Looking through that old Daily Episode post really brings back memories!

**************You may want to refer to this post from awhile back that has a comprehensive unaired list: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...hlight=unaired

A few more cases with unknown airdates that I know for a fact never aired on Lifetime. I've never even heard of these cases until I saw them on the UM Wikia. I've also included some more details about some of the ones I listed in my initial post.

Kim Nguyen
On July 18, 1993, a mentally disabled eight year old boy named Kim Nguyen vanished from his home in Garland, Texas, and police believed that he had been abducted. Eleven days of searching would finally come to an end when Kim's badly decomposed body was found by teenagers in Mesquite, Texas. Although the cause of death could not be determined, police believe he was murdered. To this day, there have been few leads and no suspects have ever been identified, although there are some theories that Kim's death is related to several other unsolved homicides and disappearances of young boys in the local area.

David Blaszczuk
In the late 1980s, Daniel Blaszczuk was the treasurer of the island of Frenchboro, Maine, when he was accused of embezzling more than $5,000 from the town. He apparently cashed several checks to the town for more than $5,250, and then moved away in 1988 and was never seen again. He is now wanted by the authorities for embezzlement.

Update: Captured. In 2010, twenty years after Blaszczuk vanished, he was found living in Connecticut. He was discovered by a man named Erik Fitch, who worked as an emergency dispatcher and found Blaszczuk's name in the Connecticut DMV. Erik claimed that he rememberd the man's name because his father, a former detective, was on Unsolved Mysteries when he was six and that it stuck with him. Blaszczuk pled guilty to theft and gave more than $5,200 back to the town of Frenchboro.

Holly Marie Andrews
On December 26, 1976, 16 year old Holly Andrews was visitng her mother for Christmas when she left the home in Columbine, Colorado, to go to a friend's house and vanished. Her naked body was found by skiers the next day and it was determined that she had been stabbed to death and sexually assaulted. The case would remain unsolved until 1983 when serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to murdering Holly along with several other women. However, as the years went by, authorities realized that Lucas was probably not Holly's killer and that the real murderer is still at large.

Update: Solved. In 1997, Holly's mother passed away without ever knowing who killed her child. However, in February of 2008, 52 year old Ricky Lee Harnish was arrested for Holly's murder after his DNA matched that found at the crime scene. Harnish pleaded to guilty to second degree murder in Holly's death and was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

David Rodriguez
David Rodriguez is wanted for his involvement in robbing a Wells Fargo bank in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Update: Captured. In December of 2007, Rodriguez was arrested in Texas while trying to cross the border into Mexico. Authorities discovered that he was wanted for bank robbery almost fifteen years ago after they ran his name in a database.

John E. Warren
Sixty nine year old John E. Warren vanished on August 7, 1983, after leaving his New Jersey home. He told his wife that he was going on his daily walk on a dirt path to Ocean City College and that he would be back in about an hour. He was seen by a security guard at 9:15am and talked to another jogger at around 9:50am, but never returend from his walk and was never seen again. Although some investigators suggested that his work at the local college was connected to his disappearance, he has never been found and his case remains unsolved.

James and Dorothy Carlson
James and Dorothy Carlson are wanted in Texas for sexual assault on a child that occured in the early 1990s. James was convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to ninety-nine years. However, before James began his sentence and before Dorothy went to trial, the couple vanished.

Update: Captured. Dorothy turned herself in to authorities in March of 2007. James is believed to have died in Mexico while on the run, but his body has not been located.

Jerome Alan Bargo
On September 16, 1987, Jerome Bargo and an accomplice used a U-haul truck to rob a video store in Neosha, Missouri, but while driving through Bentonville, Arkansas, they were stopped by two police officers, David Hugg and James Dray. While the two men were inspecting the truck, Bargo stole Hugg's gun and began firing at Dray, who was hit in the chest.

Bargo was soon arrested by police, tried and convicted of attempted murder and burglary and was sentenced to 140 years in prison. However, on May 10, 1988, Bargo escaped from prison. Bargo has not been seen since, and along with the escape, he is wanted for questioning in the death of a state trooper.

Update: Captured. On September 3, 2003, Bargo was arrested in North Carolina on a minor drug charge, while under the alias Michael Walters. His fingerprints confirmed that he was actually Jerome Bargo. However, he had vanished before police figured out his true identity. However, he was arrested at a bar soon afterwards and was returend to Arkansas to finish his sentence.

Robin Ann Graham
Robin Ann Graham vanished from the Hollywood Freeway after her car ran out of gas on November 15, 1970. She has not been seen since. Her case is still open.

Jonelle Matthews
On December 20, 1984, at 8:15pm 12 year old Jonelle Matthews was dropped off at her home in Greeley, Colorado, after going to a Christmas choral program at a nursing home. She waited for her father and sister, who were at a basketball game, to come home (her mother was visiting out-of-state relatives). At 8:30pm, she received a call from a friend of her father, and by 9:30pm, her father discovered that she was missing. The TV and lights were on and authorities believe she may have been abducted by unknown intruder(s) while watching TV. They discovered the garage door open and footprints were in the garage and back of the house. Investigators believe she was sexually assaulted then murdered somewhere else, but her case remains unsolved.

Sherry Lynn Marler
At around 6:40 pm on June 6, 1984, 12 year old Sherry Marler went with her stepfather in Greenville, Alabama to a bank and he gave her a dollar to go to a gas station across the street and get a soda. She left the bank and went to the gas station and was never seen again, and when her stepdad went to the station 15 minutes later, she was not there and she was reported missing. Since she vanished, there were three different sightings of Sherry, and each time was with an unidentified man. One saw her at a truck stop in Georgia, another was at a mall in New Orleans, and each time she was seen upset, disheveled, and dazed. Her family believes that she was abducted, but her case remains unsolved.

Suspects: The man that was seen with Sherry after she vanished was described as 50 years old, 5'8" tall, a husky build, a weathered complexion, and crow's feet around his eyes. At the first sighting, Sherry called the man "B.J.". He has never been identified.

Janice Pockett
Seven year old Janice Pockett vanished on July 26, 1973 after leaving her Tolland, Connecticut home on her bicycle to look for a butterfly. Her mother found her bike a half hour later on a road less than a mile from their home, and authorities presumed that she had been abducted after finding the butterfly. The police believe that Janice's disappearance may be connected to the disappearances of four other young girls in the local area, but this theory has not been confirmed. Her disappearance remains unsolved.

Suspects: Pedophile Charles Pierce confessed that he killed Janice and buried her next to an unidentified boy, but this theory was later dismissed.

George Decker
In 1966, Glen and Kathryn Decker had a son named George, and their marriage soon began to fall apart and they later divorced. In 1973, George was playing in the snow in the backyard of his father's house when he vanished. Glen believed that Kathryn abducted George, but the police would not help him in his search. Glen is still searching for him decades later.

Update: Solved. In 2009, Glen was able to locate his son through a friend and the two were soon reunited.

Dorothy Jane Scott
On May 27, 1980, 32 year old secretary Dorothy Jane Scott dropped her young son of at her parent's house in Anaheim, California, and then went to a company meeting. While at the meeting, a coworker named Conrad Bostron began spazzing out in pain and Dorothy took him to the hospital along with a coworker Pam Head. Surprisingly, the doctors found that Conrad had been bitten by a black widow spider. At around 11pm, Conrad's illness left him, but he still was in shock, and Dorothy went to get the car from the hospital parking lot and vanished. Pam looked out the window after waiting several minutes and then saw Dorothy's car driving out of the lot, but did not go to the hospital enterance and instead drove away and was never seen alive again. The first major lead police received was that Dorothy began receiving threatning phone calls at a shop where she worked in the weeks before she vanished. A man who also worked there said that Dorothy had told him that the unidentified caller was watching Dorothy's every move and that the caller described to her everything in detail and she knew that the caller must have been legit. The calls apparently stopped after Dorothy vanished. Four years later, in August of 1984, skeletal remains were found in a rugged forest area north of Anaheim that were later identified as being Dorothy's remains. Her disappearance and death, as well as the identity of the mysterious caller, remain a mystery.

Jameika Porch
On August 14, 1994, four year old Jameika Porch was discovered missing by her grandmother, Annie Tatum, when she was not in the bed she shared with her cousin in Chattanooga, Tennessee. However, Annie wasn't concerned because she thought her daughter, Joyce, Jameika's mother, had picked her up. Then, when Annie called her daughter, she found that Jameika was not with Joyce and that her granddaughter was missing. They searched throughout the neighborhood, but Jameika could not be located and they called police. The authorities believed that Jameika was abducted after they found that the window pane from a door in the house had been removed. To this day, Jameika has not been found and police have no suspects in the case. Her family has offered a $6000 reward for information in the case.

Update: Unresolved. In October of 1999, workers for a tree trimming service discovered skeletal remains of a small child at Riverside Industrial Park off of Amnicola Highway. On April 25, 2000, the remains were positvely identified as Jameika Porch from DNA testing. It was determined that she had been strangled to death with a ligature shortly after she vanished. Her murder remains unsolved.

I'm also pretty sure that some of these cases were never filmed and may have been mistakenly added to the UM Wiki. The Jonelle Matthews case would have been PERFECT, for example, since it's such a baffling disappearance. It's a bummer most of these weren't aired or even filmed.

if i ever wanted to commit a huge crime, what i would do is take some hostages

and then demand that NBC air the following Unsolved cases on their nwtwork (with Stack hosting if possible)

then as each case airs i'd let free one suspect

if i have to risk a few years of my own life to capture a UM killer i'll gladly do so..not that i forsee ever having to do so

I tend to agree with you. Although I've seen a lot of them that are in the first list in this thread, have never heard of any of them (or know of anyone that has ever seen or heard of any of them) in the second list. Its possible as you said that they were filmed but never aired or they were quickly mentioned in one of the Special Alert or Special Bulletins or that the person who posts the UM wikia was mistaken. I wonder where he/she gets their information.

Just from reading the summary about it above, that particular case doesn't seem too baffling. The father's friend that called her at 8:30 PM, he should be the number one suspect. He probably found out that she was home alone and went over there and took her before they got home.

I would certainly hope that he was investigated. If not, that's just shoddy police work. She might have even let him in while watching TV if he was a recognizable friend and then he attacked her in front of the TV. But I think he'd have had to have been gone from his own home for a long time in order to hide her body long enough that it hasn't been found yet. So I would hope that they checked him out to make sure that he had a thorough alibi. We also don't know if he lived right nearby though that's what I automatically assumed as well. I really wish there was more information on this one. I've checked several sites and found very little to add.

Edit: Also, the word "acquaintance" strikes me for the father's caller. Not a close enough friend of the family to suspect but someone he knew from work or something. He also may have known that the mother was out of the state so obviously not there while the father was out.

I agree CD. If you look at the dates of some of those cases, a number of them date back to the seventies or sixties. It seems as a rule, UM rarely profiled true cold cases and by that I mean cases that went back over a decade. That's not to say they didn't occasionally profile them (look at Clifford Sherwood for example) but it wasn't a common occurrence.

So in my opinion those cases were incorrectly added by someone to the UM wiki.

Update: Captured. When the segment aired a second time, a viewer recognized the bank photos of the bandit and contacted the FBI. The bandit, identified as Bernard Stick, was arrested on April 26, 1989 in Marina Del Ray.
This was part of a "roll call" of unidentified bank robbers who had been photographed by surveillance cameras. It was a "Wanted" segment. There were also other robbers featured in addition to Strick. Their names escape me now, but I know one profile was of a duo known as "The Shopping Bag Bandits" and they were arrested about two weeks later as a result of the broadcast.

I don't think any of this bank robber stuff made it to Lifetime, but I could be wrong. This was the same episode that had the first part of the Son of Sam report.

The 2/8/89 episode was the Alcatraz special and ran 90 minutes with commercials. These were just really brief profiles of other escaped cons as opposed to actual full length stories. The entire piece with all of these cons was probably less than five minutes in duration. Oddly enough, it was edited out by the second time the Alcatraz episode aired on NBC during the summer of 1989.

I suspect this edit was made because another prison escapee, Jean Marie Gagnon, who did get a full story, had been captured by the time the episode was repeated that summer. The update about Gagnon's arrest was surprisingly lengthy.

The Alcatraz episode was repeated again in the summer of 1990 and, once again, these profiles were gone.

When Lifetime aired the Alcatraz episode, it had been condensed to a 44 minute length to fit the usual hour timeslot. This was achieved by deleting the non-related stories about Gagnon, and some of the "progress reports" about the rafters and the guy swimming across the bay.

Joseph Mancini was caught, btw. IIRC, he was in prison in another state serving time for an unrelated crime but under an alias and the authorities hadn't made the connection at the time.

These were brief reports tacked on to the end of another story, I believe an update about the sentencing of Steven Hadley.

It wasn't uncommon for UM to do quick "rapid fire" rollcalls of similar, yet unrelated, crimes after doing a full story on another case. This stuff was usually deleted on Lifetime, probably for time, or because such rollcalls would be difficult for Lifetime to update.

To add to the confusion, an NBC repeat of this segment had different profiles. I remember one guy was named Sami Eisbart and he was wanted for embezzlement.

These were all part of the first ever "FBI Alert"; a portion of the segment narrated by Williams Sessions, then acting director of the FBI. I don't think this part made it to Lifetime, probably because it was another "rollcall". Again, it was about 5 minutes or so.

This was shown on Lifetime, including the stuff about the Kealings, IIRC. I can picture that weird photo of them with what I presume was a Charlie McCarthy dummy in the foreground with his face blurred (not kidding).

Yeah, that was an odd one. Not sure why Lifetime never showed it, unless because it referenced the 3rd anniversary show which also never aired.

More rapid fire profiles that were tacked on to the end of the Patrick Michael Mitchell story, IIRC.

If these were the two French sailors who were possibly sighted by a police officer during a routine traffic stop, then yes, it was on Lifetime.

I'm skeptical of this list (as well as the second list you posted). I gather it was something culled from the UM Wikia which you pretty much have to take with a massive size grain of salt as all of it's contributions are from fans and are not fact checked. There are lots of, I'm sure, well meaning people, who will swear up and down that such and such a case was on UM and they'll add that information to the Wiki site, and it goes unchecked.

BTW, I have all of September 1992 on tape from NBC and I can assure you the Springfield Three isn't there.

I asked Unsolved243, who is not only a member of this board, but also a major contributor to the UM Wikia. I asked how/where he found info about the following cases actually being segments on UM:

* Sherry Lynn Marler
* George Decker
* Holly Marie Andrews
* Kim Nguyen
* David Blaszczuk
* John E. Warren
* David Rodriguez
* Jerome Alan Bargo
* James and Dorothy Carlson
* Jameika Porch
* Janice Pockett
* Robin Ann Graham
* Jonelle Matthews

His response was:

Those cases above I posted on here was because there were threads created on the um message board that had articles stating that these cases were featured on Unsolved Mysteries. I'm not 100% certain that the case existed, and there is a chance that most of the cases were mistaken to be on the show by the people who wrote the articles. However, there is also a chance that they were filmed but not aired, or that the cases were placed in a special alert.

Personally, I think at least a few of these cases were featured on the show at least mentioned in quick fire roll calls, (or at least had segments filmed but never aired) because if Unsolved243 is right about the articles mentioning UM, I don't think that every one of those articles is mistaken about UM's involvement in those respective cases.

I think part of the problem is that many cases have been mentioned in the press as "potential" UM stories. However, that doesn't mean they made it to production or to air.

For example, I remember reading some news articles published in the Times during UM's first season about a New York family who was desperate to get their missing daughter a slot on the show. There was even mention, in at least one of the articles, about the family actually speaking with a member of the CM production staff and alluding to the possibility that CM was interested in taking the case. Yet, to the best of my knowledge, no such story was ever made.

As I said earlier, the UM wiki information has to be taken with a grain of salt. While the wiki idea is a great idea in theory, in practice, it has some problems. The wiki will only be as good as the information provided, which, sometimes, isn't very good. Any one can edit the info that is there. As I pointed out, a lot of people believe they have seen specific cases on UM, yet, they are wrong. However, they can post the information to the wiki, it goes unchecked, other people read it and believe that they too have seen the story and the unsubstantiated rumor takes on a life of it's own.

Personally, if I ever have any questions about a story, I turn to this forum. The collective knowledge of the posters here far surpasses anything in the wiki, IMO.
