LOL, Max.

There is a hilarious scene in an I Love Lucy episode that illustrates how tricky English can be. I don't know the exact quote but it is the one where Ricky is trying to pronounce all the words that end in -ough. In each word, -ough is pronounced differently: rough, through, bough (there were a couple more I can't remember). I thought it was so funny.

This isn't the same thing, but it's along the same lines.

Why do you drive on the parkway and park in the driveway?
When you buy a tv set, how come you only get one?
When you send something by ship, it's called cargo, but when you send something by car, it's called a shipment.

OMG Yes. I was thinking of that episode the whole time I was reading this. I think Ricky was reading a story to Little Ricky. LOL That was really funny, Max. I'm glad English is my native language because I'd hate to have learn it as a foreigner.

Red face

You'll never realize how difficult English can be until you take a linguistics course. They take something you thought was easy and chop it up into fine little bits until it makes absolutely NO SENSE!!!

I LOVED Amelia Bedelia!

While playing a baseball game:

"Run home" she runs to her house...

"Steal second" she grabs second base out of the dirt and runs for her life...

I'm gonna go check out an Amelia Bedelia book tomorrow!
