Default Cagney & Lacey season 1 - I forgot just how good this show is

I am watching Cagney&Lacey. For the first time in a long time. It's season 1,The episode where they are mad each other.Because they both saw different things.Cagney saw a gun and Lacey didn't.Cagney gets a tip and goes down to the docks by herself. She plays someone trying to buy drugs.A mutual friend tells Lacey. So,of course they go down to the docks and save the day.At the end, they bust the guy.Lacey tells Cagney she was right.Who did you guys like better?Cagney or Lacey?

I just found out, a little interesting news from Wikipedia. Loretta Swit played the role of Cagney, in the original TV movie. But she was forced to decline the role in the tv series. Because MASH wouldn't let her out of her contract. It is probably for the best. But that would of been interesting.I don't think i have ever seen the movie.

Interesting info about Loretta Swit almost playing Cagney. She probably could have pulled it off.

I liked Lacey just a little better, she was friendlier. I also liked the glimpses into her home life & how she struggled with having a husband & kids while having a career as a New York dectective.

Yeah, I agree I think she would have been great. I’d like to see the 81 movie, where she actually did play her. You are right Lacey was definitely nicer.Sorry about that i just realized. I messed up on my earlier post. Lorretta Swit did play the role of Cagney in the orignal tv movie. But she was forced to decline the role in the tv series, because of MASH.

Great show, I really enjoyed both characters, because even though they were very different they were essentially good people and their interactions were so interesting and compelling.

I'm pretty sure there was a reunion movie, I'm thinking about 1988? You might want to look that up.

I just looked it up on IMDB and I was wrong. There were actually FOUR reunion movies, airing from 1994 to 1995. I didn't remember the show lasting until the late 80s but I guess it did!

That is awesome, sounds like I have a lot more to enjoy. I just looked up night court and, was surprised to see it lasted 9 seasons.

Hi all, I'm rewatching the show and am on Season 6, am I'm surprised how you all didn't realise there was a different Cagney in The TV Movie Pilot. Here's a few other casting changes you may not have known about:

*Cagney was played by three actresses: Loretta Swit in The TV Movie Pilot, Meg Foster in Season 1 and Sharon Gless from Season 2 onwards.
*Harvey was played by two actors: Ronald Hunter in The TV Movie Pilot and John Karlen from Season 1 onward.
*Isbecki was played by two actors: Jefferson Mappin in The TV Movie Pilot and Martin Kove from Season 1 onward.

*P.S., What I think you guys are talking about is not Season 1, but Season 2 (mislabelled Box Set 1 by MGM), as Season 1 opened with Cagney and Lacey going undercover as hookers, whereas Season 2 opened up with Cagney and Lacey witnessing a shooting, but both saying they saw different things.

Overall, this is a very good show, Season 1 is just as good as the later 'more popular' Episodes.

This is one of the better cop shows. Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless were magnificent together. Great show!
