Default Brian the last episode was intended to be a "series finale" according to

The Note section on TV.com based on how everyone was talking about the past 4 seasons. But I guess when CBS renewed the show for the fall of 1978 it became a season finale.

I;m about to watch it now to see if it has a "series finale" feel to it

I watched it and it did not have a "Series Finale" feel, more like a season finale so not sure what that NOTE on TV.com was about. It was a great episode with Benny, Brenda, Rhoda, Ida, and Jack all in a car riding on a dark country road searching for a certain house. But defintely not a series finale feel

From what I recall, the "finale" was about Benny not appreciating Brenda and taking her for granted, while Rhoda tried to keep mum about her feelings about it until she and Brenda have a heart-to-heart discussion in the laundry room.

This episodes (and the 3 prior to it) were never aired on CBS. These 4 episodes didn't see the light of day until the show went into syndication in the 1980s.

Even with this episode, it doesn't seem the series had a true finale. I do know that Valerie Harper was in Canada giving an interview when she got a call that CBS wasn't renewing the series and she was actually releived.

Personally, I think she only went through with doing the final year beause of contractual obligations. If you really examine the show that year, not much effort was put into it. Heck, even the opening credies were the same ones from the previous season. Only difference was the music.

Well it's not often you see a finale for a show that only was on the air for 5 years or less.

It has nothing to do with how many years a show is on the air. THE JEFFERSONS was on CBS for 11 seaons and didn't have a series finale. PHYLLIS was only on the air for 2 seasons but had a proper series finale.

What determines if a show gets a proper series finale is if the producers know at the time that the season is winding down if the network plans to renew the show or not.

Phyllis had a "season finale" not a series finale

I'm referring to PHYLLIS not getting a proper series finale and you're talking about season finales....two different things...apples and oranges.

You said Phyllis had a SERIES FINALE and I disagreed because no show gets a series finale after 2 seasons.
