Hey guys. I loved to watch America’s Most Wanted way back in the early '90’s. That was when the show had a hip intro and christened sensationalist titles to each of their cases. Back then, FOX made AMW look like a tabloid version of true crime TV.
I can remember one particular case that was aired sometime in 1992. It was a case about a college professor who abducts a 22-year-old female hitchhiker. He takes her to his home, blindfolds her, binds her hands, and locks her inside a closet. He holds her captive at his home for up to two weeks, and repeatedly makes her repeatedly utter the words “I will obey". At the end of the reenactment, the two of them are at a grocery store, where he flees after she takes off her blindfold and pleads for help from a cashier. But that is all I can remember from this particular case. It was a long reenactment that almost stretched over a single broadcast. I can also recall three other pieces of information- (1) that the title of the reenactment was "Against Her Will"; (2) that this crime took place in Texas; and (3) that this same case also aired on FOX's A Current Affair. Does anyone here remember this specific case? Was this case ever closed? What was the name of the perpetrator and the name of the victim? Why wasn't there a missing persons report filed for the victim? Were there any rape or sexual assault charges against the perpetrator? I'm interested in this case because most young women who are abducted are often raped and then murdered. Plus, I find it strange that there was no massive search for the victim in this case. I know I’m going back 20 years. But I was hoping that someone who watched AMW way back then might remember this case. Thanks guys! |

His name is Bill Robert Cathey. He went to Oklahoma, where he was in hiding until 1993, when he got into a shoot-out with deputies. He was sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder. Because of the prison sentence in Oklahoma, a Texas district attorney decided not to extradite him to face trial for the 1991 kidnapping.
