Default Was this a shot at Philadelphia????

In the beginning of season 3 Ida was talking about her trip around the world because of the Bicentennial and they were going to some Historical Hot Spots like Washington D.C, Willamsburg, and Miami??

No Philadelphia??? The Liberty bell, The Besty Ross House? This had to be a joke and a shot at the city at the time.

I don't think it was necessarily a shot at Philly, more like a Jewish joke about Miami.

I realized at the time this episode aired Philadelphia wasn't on the map yet because the movie Rocky had no been out in the theaters yet

Yeah, but the Phillies were really good -- they were winning the Eastern Division of the National League with Mike Schmidt and Greg Luszinski. They had plenty of World Series potential, but the Reds and Dodgers got in the way back then -- the NL West kept getting the pennant until the '79 Pirates took it (and went all the way, of course!).

I'll note here too that Nancy Walker was born in Philly.

LOL you sound just like my dad. He's lived in Pittsburgh his whole life, as most of our family still does, and was rooting for Philly at a time when Willie Stargell and "We Are Family" was setting the city on fire. Being a die-hard Phillies fan deep in Pirate country for 2 decades finally paid off for him when they won they won the Series the next year. After the '80 World Series, he lost interest in pro ball but the way the Pirates are playing this year he's back to rooting for the now-crummy Phillies; consequently EVERY 3rd baseman fails in comparison to Mike Schmidt according to him. Man I could BS endlessly about yesteryear's baseball. Baseball might be the only thing I enjoy as much as film & television.
