Anyone have one or can suggest a good one?? I am thinking of buying one so that I may buy Region 2 DVDs from Amazon.

Oh that would be wonderful to have one of these! I have a TON of DVD's of Days of our Lives Jack and Jennifer that someone sent me several years ago that I have yet to watch b/c they are Australian and I can't watch them on my DVD players. I would love to find a way to copy them onto DVD's I can actually watch.

You may not even need to purchase a "region free" DVD player. It's possible the DVD player you already own is capable of playing discs from any region. In reality there is no such thing a DVD player made specifically for all regions in 2012. It just has to do with what is programmed into the unit at the factory. For many players all you have to do is push a sequence of buttons on the remote and it's simple as that. Here is a great site that has a list of players with instructions:

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/

The players sold on Amazon as "region free" are regular units that sellers have opened and performed the hack (or the player is still new in the box and they supply the instructions). Instead I recommend buying a model that you know is hackable. I've done the procedure on several players and found my Philips DVP3560 the easiest and most foolproof but as a player it's pretty crappy. Just look at different players and check that website to see if the unit can be changed to all regions. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I'll check out our DVD's and see if I can play these on there! I mean they don't really do much good sitting in my closet!

Some further advice: some newer cheaper DVD players do not have the model number on the front (unlike nearly all electronic components since the beginning of freakin' time). But don't fret. To get the model# and search that site for a hack, you may have to yank it out and look on the back panel or even on the underside.

the units sold as region free online may be $30 more than the regular unit. That is a con. Just buy the regular unit and go online to get the hack code. I bought a $30 dvd player and hacked it to make it region free and it works great.
