I thought catchphrases on shows were a thing of the past. The 70's certainly had a lot of them like "Kiss my grits" or "Dy-no-mite." But Chuck Lorre and Jim Parsons have seemingly resurrected the catchphrase with "Bazinga!" How has this phrase become so popular? Do you think we may see a resurgence of catchphrases on sitcoms?

i think its more of an "anti-catchphrase" designed to mock sitcom catchphrases; its just too stupid to really be catchy...
although it does look good on a T-shirt |

I don't see how one could consider it a catchphrase. It's barely been used this past season.

Not sure "catch-phrase" is an accurate portrayal as how its used on the show.
You got a character (Sheldon) who shows no emotion - doesnt understand sarcasm - so "bazinga" is his way of calling attention to when he makes a joke that no one else finds funny or dont know if hes being serious. A catch-phrase is something used often that becomes a fabric of the show, similar to " Book'em Danno"....Sheldon might use that phrase a few times a season. |
