Sad Do You Think Frasier Crane's Personal Life Was....Depressing?!?

Sure, he was Harvard educated, had a successful psychiatric practice and radio show. But I think the one thing this show really lacked was a good woman for Frasier. His personal life was filled with loneliness. Anybody agree? Disagree?

Nah, he had a lot of dates and a lot of them were good women who were interested in him; he's the one who screwed it up every time. In fact, most of the women he dated were good women, he just didn't know how to treat them or how to be in a romantic relationship at all. And rather than the show lacking anything, I think that was purposeful on the writers' part because they gave us scenes like when he called Lilith and asked her if she thought he didn't know how to be happy, and the when Niles listed all those names of women Frasier had failed relationships with and told him nothing was going to change until he broke out of that pattern. That's just part of the character, I think, but I'm with you, I wish the character had been different in that respect too. I still get appalled at the stupid things Frasier does with those women. It's like whenever a good woman shows interest in him he temporarily loses his mind.

That's what I think too. As much as I like a happy ending and as much as I would have liked to see him in a happy relationship, it seemed like the theme of the character was a guy who just couldn't get it right in that area of his life.

I like to think that he and Charlotte fell deeper in love and moved to San Francisco so that he could take that job that Bebe found for him.

I don't think that his life was depressing at all. He had a successful career and was extremely close to his family and had a lot of friends. I don't know too many people who are best friends with their younger brother either.

Yup, I agree. He seemed to go out all the time too, whether it was on a date or with Roz or with family. Plus he had Martin and Daphne to come home to, and even Eddie... and no matter how much he griped out them being there, remember when Daphne left after she married Niles he was not happy, and when they wanted Christmas to be at their house that year he was not happy about that either and felt like Niles was taking over his "whole household." As much as he said otherwise, those people in his life and having things like the holidays at his house meant everything to him. His life was pretty far from being depressing, actually. Just talking about everything he had makes me feel like my life is pretty depressing, though.

The guy made an ungodly amount of money, wined and dined at the finest restaurants, dated some of the hottest women I've ever seen, and had a full family & home life. Lonely? I'd trade places with him in a heartbeat if he didn't mind working 3 jobs just to pay the bills, eating ramen noodles several days a week, once in a great while dating an airheaded uggo, and having almost no family to speak of. Anybody else want to trade?

Ha ha, that's so true! At least I live in the same city as he did, so I don't feel quite so bad about my life!

I pictured him as a man searching for perfection so he will always be disappointed!

Cool

Part of me wishes he could've had a successful relationship on his show, but I felt some consolation in the fact that Frasier and Niles reacted to being single with mortal terror . I laughed when Niles said "I don't want to go back to being a bachelor ! I wasn't any good at it the first time !" . Everybody's always trying to tell me how wonderful being single is . If you can't find a girlfriend, being single is a curse ,

Yes, he had a ton of breakups, but in the end, he went back to his family, and made them stronger. It may have taken him 11 years, but he was happy that his family was happy. Being burned by Lilith and Diane, those demons never left, and the show did a great job dealing with a character that over analyses everything.

Usually with people like Frasier, they don't know how to take the advice they dish out. I think seeing Niles and Daphne, and Martin find that real true love, he was able to see that it is not impossible.

I have him going to Chicago, and being happy with Charlotte, and him staying their for her, not for himself.

Frasier always seemed to do something in the end to mess up any possible relationship. He could never be content with what he had, he was always looking for something more...or better. It would have been nice to have seen him in a solid, committed relationship at the end of the series.

His personal life didn't seem all that depressing. He had plenty of dates, work friends & of course his family to keep his life from getting too dull. As for his settling down with one person, I think that would have really altered the show.

Oh No

I feel he's a chick-repellant. Though he talked to women...he never could find Ms. Right, even on the show "Cheers".

But it DID change on the Finale of "Frasier" when he talked to a woman...I hope he did find someone to bear the name of Crane.

I just like to think that, right now, he and Charlotte have a daughter, and Freddy is proud to be a big brother.
