Question Can The Game Show Genre Make Another Comeback??? Or Is This It?!?

Game shows were so big back in the day. The golden era was of course the 70's to the 80's (at least in my opinion) Regis Philbin and Who Wants to be a Millionaire back in 1999 started a Game Show rebirth, but fizzled out a few years later. Can it rise from the ashes again or is the game show genre going by the way of the variety show?

I used to love Game Shows back in the 70's and early 80's. I think the problem for me is that all the great game show hosts that I grew up with are dead or retired. None of the new ones have ever excited me much. I might have given WWTBAM a chance if ABC didn't try to cram it down our throats. After awhile I just wanted it gone. lol

Good points! The days of Wink Martindale, Bob Barker, Gene Rayburn, Bill Cullen and even Bert Convy are seemingly gone. Those men that I mentioned seemed like they were born to host a game show.

The 1970's was the peak time for morning game shows, all three networks had game shows on, hosted by people who were adept at hosting game shows. Nowadays, with few exceptions no one seems capable of hosting game shows anymore. Few people are trained properly for it. CBS is keeping morning game shows alive with Let's Make A Deal and Price Is Right, but look at who they have hosting these shows. Drew Carey is a doofus, Wayne Brady is obnoxious and annoying. But that Tiffany girl they have on Let's Make A Deal, damn she is smoking hot.

Yes her name is Tiffany Coyne. She is so gorgeous, other than being on Let's Make A Deal, I think I saw her appear once on Craig Ferguson's late show. She is lovely.

She replaced original Model Alison Fiori in late 2009 who was once a model on Deal or no Deal if you believe it or not.

Let's have a look at Ms. Coyne:

No wonder at least one site has called her "The Real Deal!"

IMHO, I like Wheel better than Jeopardy!, but I use to love Family Feud but ever since Steve "I'm just here to get my paycheck" Harvey stepped in 2010 I stopped watching the show because the jokes are really not funny at all are now themed (for which of course are D**K Jokes) instead of the other previous versions for which the jokes were improvised, they almost have to have a black family playing against a white family instead of multi-racial like other previous versions before this. Also I hated the look of Harvey's face-off podium and family podiums, there's so freaking ugly and obnoxious it makes the Face-off and family podium from the Anderson/Karn era look like your in a spaceship. also Harvey has now made this show fake and a sell out for ratings and youtube.

also I sometimes get sick of people thinking that Steve Harvey is the far superior Feud host than all the others because when people say that make them look selfish and a *D* bag. and No I'm not counting everyone here of course.

SURVEY SAYS...SCREW STEVE HARVEY AND HIS RATINGS NOW AND FOREVER!

also Joey Fatone sucks as the current Feud announcer, Gene Wood and Burton Richardson are way better than him.

In my opinion the set of Family Feud has gone way too far astray from its original, homespun "sampler" look. The old Dawson-era sets had a lot of character. All of the subtleties have been stripped away.

It's interesting in looking at a couple of the comedians turned game show hosts, Drew Carey (TPIR) and Wayne Brady (LMAD) have such differing approaches. Carey almost goes over the top in trying to be friendly, while Brady tends to be so standoffish at times that he comes off as scary.

I would take Jonathan Mangum of Let's Make a Deal as a host over most of the current incumbents. He appears to have the talent and temperament necessary to be a good host, yet currently he's being wasted as a second banana.

no offense Biffbronson, but I like the Combs set much better than Dawson's 76 set and to be fair I kind of like the Dawson 94 set sure it wasn't the best but it's okay. but I so agree with you on the current Feud sets in general I mean the classic set in both Dawson '76 and Combs had more of a "Southern Hospitality" Feel to them while the other's had more a "Nightclub" feel to them mostly over Harvey's for which again I don't watch anymore. but as for current Feud set I like the Anderson '99-'02 version again wasn't the best and it did had a warehouse feel to it but it's okay. also I was going to originally say about the Face-Off and Family podiums from the Harvey era set look like the twins towers from the World Trade Center but I think it would have been too controversial for this thread anyway.

Also biffbronson, what do you think about the O'Hurley/Roker era set? at least it tried to be like the Dawson/Combs era but more modern.

but you know there were other comedians turn game show host as well like Howie Mandel and Cedric the Entertainer for example.

also I never though of Jonathan Mangum as a game show host since he has a similar role opposite the late Jay Stewart on CBS' LMAD.
