The Jeffersons is the longest-running sitcom with a predominantly African American cast in the history of American television, lasting 11 seasons and a total of 253 episodes.

Can another show break this record?

You mean on a Network channel or just period? I don't think it will ever happen again, that was something that was new at the time and no one had ever seen anything like it. Everything about it was just new and different

George Jefferson......afro with a receding hairline

Weezy.......Manly Voice

Florence......No Respect for her Boss

Interrcial Marriage

Bentley......Odd English Neighbor who wanted to be walked on

First Black Family on TV that was successful

Mix all that together and you see why people tuned in every week LOL

I mean could another mostly African American sitcom ever top 11 seasons and 253 episodes? Can it be done by another show? I say no....

I don't think so. It's hard for a sitcom to last 11 seasons anymore period. I think The Jeffersons just came on at the right time. They had great characters that people liked and it had a bit of luck. It survived almost getting cancelled and then thriving on one of the best comedy nights of all time.

No because most black shows can't be normal so i don't ever see it happening.

Don't know if it counts or not but although it's only aired for 7 years, Tyler Perry's House of Payne currently has 264 episodes.

Yea, I was thinking of that show. It isn't even in the same league as The Jeffersons. When you get shows that automatically get 90 episode pickups, it makes it look more popular than it really is.

Seems like any black show that's created today has to be Ghetto. Like that new show on TV land with Cedric the Entertainer who was never funny to me anyway.

I can't think of one black show where the family is normal that is out now. Normal like the Winslows and Huxtables

Actually, it has only aired for five years (July 2007). It did have a 10 episode trial run in 2006 but I didn't cound it because those episodes were re written and filmed again in 2007.
