This is a article about the premiere of the Jeffersons on Jan 21, 1975 and from reading the article it appears that it's a scene missing. It states that in the first episode you heard the word "honkey" twice and the word "n**ger" twice
It's mentioned that Louise says "n**ger" but on the DVD the only character who used that word based on the DVD episode is George and Helen. And no one is called a honkey in the first episode. So there is clearly a cut scene from the DVD since it's noted that Louise says it at the 22 minute mark This is the kind of edit I don't care about because I wasn't supposed to know-LOL http://news.google.com/newspapers?id...ffersons&hl=en |

I was curious, so I pulled out the first episode of The Jeffersons last night, and I observed both George, and Helen Willis saying the word. And the word honkey came out of both Helen and Tom's mouths.
I see this old article states Isabel Sanford (Louise) uttered the word, ni**er. If this scene was edited, I can't see it being for "Political Correct" reasons, since the word was uttered by 2 other characters on the dvd. I'm thinking either the person writing the article was mistaken about who blurted out the word, OR there was an alternate version of the scene used in the original network airing.

I think the writer knew who Isabel Sanford was and can't see him making that kind of error in his column. So it definitley means there was a alternate version shown on CBS. I don't have the 1st season on DVD but I know once I watch it again I will be able to tell when Isabel scene was cut out. |
