I know there is a lot of controversial topics out there centered around this book but I am oddly curious to read these books. Has anyone on here read them and are they as bad as others have portrayed them to be.

I've heard of it (I think everyone has) but I don't have any interest in it. I hear it's mostly popular among middle-aged women, but a lot of younger women are reading it too.
My mother and sister have read it (the first book) and have said that it is very sexually explicit. The kinky sex is very detailed, as well as the sexual fantasies. I read some critics' reviews and some say that from a literary point of view that the book series really isn't that great. Apparently the author was influenced by writing fan-fiction for Twilight and it lead into this. If you enjoy reading fan-fiction then you will be used to the style of writing. You also have to not mind reading very explicit material. I don't mind viewing or reading sexual/erotic material but I don't care for fan-fiction and the series seems to be geared towards women. Haven't heard of many males reading it. |

Thats about the same thing I heard except the fan fiction part. My mother and sister are both currently reading it at the moment so instead of purchasing it I may just borrow one of their copies of the 1st one and see what I think. Thank you

A co-worker just finished the whole trilogy. She said once you get to the second book you're bored with the repetetive sex scenes and start to realize the writing is pretty crappy. Check other websites for excerpts of book. It may be steamy but the writing is hilariously awful.

I saw the SNL parody last month. I thought "50 Shades of Grey" didn't exist.
Now I know it does. But I can't imagine it being a Twilight for housewives.

A friend of mine read it (purchased it to read on her Kindle and didn't want to waste money if she bailed on it). She described it as "p*rn written by a virgin". Apparently it's rife with "manhoods", "powerful tremors", and everything is either turning scarlet or crimson on a regular basis.
On one hand, I'm appalled that someone has made money regurgitating Twilight fanfic; on the other, I'm jealous that I didn't think of it first!

I saw the Gilbert Gottfried snippet and the women don't look that shocked.
I'd be having that "oh my god moment with a half open mouth look." |
