'30 Rock's' Alec Baldwin Attacks A Photographer

Emmy-winning actor Alec Baldwin got into a physical confrontation this morning outside the marriage license office in New York City when a photographer tried to shoot pictures of Baldwin and his fiancee, reports the New York Daily News.

The 54-year-old star of NBC's “30 Rock” reportedly punched photographer Marcus Santos in the face. Santos was with two other photographers at the Worth Street location. Baldwin reportedly saw the cameras and reacted angrily.

Said Santos, “He comes after me, starts shoving and punching me -- one time, right in the chin. And then he started shoving me, and pushing me. Then he goes the other way.”

The newspaper, which had multiple photographers on the scene, published a series of photos of the encounter on its website.

Goran Veljic witnessed the incident and said Baldwin’s face was filled with rage. “He was like crazy, you know?” said Veljic, a freelancer who shoots pictures every day outside that office.“There was an eruption of mad. ... You’re going to get a marriage license, you should be happy. What happened with this guy?”

Baldwin’s 28-year-old fiancee, Hilaria Thomas, was walking behind Baldwin when the punch was thrown, according to the newspaper’s account.

Baldwin later tweeted about the event, saying, “A ‘photographer’ almost hit me in the face with his camera this morning. #allpaparazzishouldbewaterboarded”

A spokesman for Baldwin blamed the photographer for starting the confrontation. In a statement, Matthew Hiltzik said Santos was upset because a passerby blocked his shot of Baldwin and Thomas.

Hiltzik said in the statement: “The photographer was clearly frustrated, pushed past the bystanders and assaulted Alec with his camera. There were no punches thrown, and any subsequent physical contact was simply Alec protecting himself.”
