That could be a fire hazard, I'd call the manufacturer and ask them about it. They might replace it since you've only had it about a year or 2. If they don't, get a new one anyway, better safe than sorry.

I agree with Charles, the fact that it's smokey would be troubling to me. If you can't get it replaced, buy a new one.

Jenny, I don't know much about toasters but this might be a good place to start?

I'd probably get rid of that smokey toaster too. I have a Sunbeam regular 2-slice toaster that I've had for over 15 years & never had any problems out of it. But you can sometimes get a lemon no matter what type of toaster you buy or how much you spend on it. Maybe you'll have better luck with the next one you get.

I agree, replace it. I bet there's a short somewhere in the toaster, causing that smell. Definitely a fire hazard.

Yikes, yeah, dump the smokey toaster. I have a KitchenAid toaster that I really like. Nice wide slots for bagels. I love it; got it at BB&B, four years ago.

I'd get rid of it too. But first I'd bring it back to BB & B and ask to speak to a manager. Say that since they are a quality oriented store (and I really do believe they are) you want them to know about a bad product they carry. Explain the toaster only lasted two yrs. A good toaster should last MUCH more than that. Maybe they will drop the product. Then ask if they might give you a discount towards a new toaster. A good manager might offer you something, realizing it as a good way to foster a loyal customer. In any event a basic toaster can be had for under $15. Good luck.

Bad luck with toasters?
Does the cord get hot when you're using it? Maybe something dripped behind the coils that you can't see? The way they build stuff these days it wouldn't surprise me if it's crapping out already. |

Do you keep the toaster clean of bread crumbs? That can cause problems. Are you putting stuff in the toaster that you are not supposed to? I never knew anyone who had to go through 2 toasters in two years unless they did something wrong to it. I agree with the last person you seem to have bad luck with tosters.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this again Jenny. Maybe you can catch a good sale. Be on the lookout for those 20% coupons from Bed Bath & Beyond. That would take the edge off the price on a good toaster.
