Gabe Kaplan once feared that WBK wasn't received as well in smaller towns around the country. He said the big cities loved the show, but smaller places might not relate to the characters and settings. Anybody NOT from a big city who loved this show or did you not like it?

As somebody who grew up in a small town, I can tell you that 'Welcome Back Kotter' was pretty popular at my grade school. All the kids went around imitating the Sweathogs.

When I was in elementary school Family Matters had not started yet. So the only sitcoms that were popular at the time was Cosby Show Facts of Life Diffrent Strokes And I don't recall anyone talking about those shows in the school yard LOL |

I went to a VERY small school, and when I was in sixth grade, WBK premiered; everyone I knew was watching it and repeating the lines. There was a lot of "Oh, I'm Barbarino, and you're Horshack, and Jim's Washington" or whatever.
That lasted about two years, and, like the show, the popularity began to really decline after that. |

WBK was even popular in Canada! "Up your nose with a rubber hose" was the most popular insult on the playground at my school for a couple of years!
