Archie is a bigot but he's not a mean bigot. He would never hurt anybody.

The amazing irony is I heard IRL Carrol O'Connor was quite liberal and most of his views were opposite of Archie Bunker!

Too bad Carrol never got to see the 1st black president. Imagine what Bunker would've said!

But Caroll O'Connor would've loved Obama. He was not like Bunker at all IRL.

On the show he was for sure a bigot. In real life i really don't know.I just know he was a great actor and i liked him a lot.Probably more so as Chief of police on in the heat of the night. But i did think Archie was funny. On in the heat of the night. He worked with black people on a regular basis. So,I don't think he was a bigot in real life.

He would have said, "We may as well hang a sign up saying, Closed, all have gone nuts!" LOL! I can't remember what episode that came from and I may not have it 100% right either, but it was something like that. he said it to Mike during one of their political arguments.

Archie was a bigot.

But he was harmless!!

It wasn't like he was a man of power.. A hatefull KKK magnate who chased blacks out of the neighborhood with violence.. Or a corporate pig who wouldn't allow blacks to work for him outside of being the janitor!!

He was an intellectual bigot.. Probably through family and the time he grew up..i.e.. "segregation" ect..

There is no episode where he tried to inflict personal harm on a minority maliciously ..

He was just a working stiff who was uneducated in his thinking.. A hopeless bigot made to look like a fool for being one..

Everyone who said Archie was a harmless racist or bigot was correct. I can tell you that a person with a racist or predjudice attitude harms no one if like Archie, he never acts on his feelings and never in any way hurts anyone. Racism is at it`s worse when it affects people lives. You have a right to say whatever you damn well want within the boundaries of your own home. Once you leave it, you must be socially tolerant of races that are not the same as yours. But you can say whatever you want in your own house. There are plenty of things that I say in my house I would never say on television.

Well I think that's the point of AITF, it's supposed to get us shaken up a little.
