Default Atheists

Is anyone else here an atheist? It just seems like there are a lot of Christians.

I am agnostic.

I am not completely closed to the idea of a higher being, or of accepting religion into my life again (except for chrisitianity). Buddhism (certain types) appeal to me, and I have been exploring it. However, it's not like it's something you just wake up and decide to be, obviously I need to think long and hard about it.

I'm a Christian, but if a person has a different belief, like atheism, that's perfectly fine with me. I'm not one of those religious fanatics who goes out to try and "save" everybody and says that anyone who doesn't live a total Christian lifestyle will rot in Hell.

Um...I dunno. I've only been to church once, and that was with a friend. My parents don't go to church; neither do either sets of my grandparents. I'm not really sure about God or anything like that.

I'm not religous but I do believe in some kind of higher power. I don't think that God is a big bearded dude sitting on a cloud. I think that 'God' is basically nature - the wind and the snow and the tides ect. Therefor I don't think that 'God' is good or evil but a mixture of both as nature can be beautiful and cruel.
I don't believe that heaven and hell are actual physical places - I believe that heaven and hell are states of mind.
It's a persons own right to believe in whatever they wish so I have absolutely no problem with Christians or any other religeion for that matter. What annoys me is when someone of a particular religeon takes it upon themselves to try'n convert everyone to their way of thinking. It really p#sses me off when I hear some Christians saying that something is wrong because God says so. That drives me nuts!

I hate that too. I wish some people would think with their brains instead of their Bibles. I'm tired of hearing people say that homosexuality is an abomination. I'm straight, but it still makes me sick. Jesus said to love thy neighbor, no matter what and I don't see how you can love someone and tell them that they'll burn in Hell at the same time. To me, that's very hypocritical and not what Christianity is about.

I agree. I HATE it when people are like "I have NO problem with homosexuals" then proceed to tell them that their lifestyle is evil and that they are going to hell. Guess what?? You DO have a problem with homosexuals, so just have the damn balls to admit it!!!

I seriously don't know what I am anymore. I'm a Catholic but um, I haven't gone to Church in.. *counts* forever. I forgot the last time I prayed, and I really never read the Bible. I'm thinking about just switching religions because I don't believe half of what Catholics say. We are studying Buddhism and Hinduism in school... they seem pretty interesting. I mean the central message of Buddhism is that all human suffering is caused by desires [or close along the lines] and to me, that makes a lot of sense. So, I really don't know what I am anymore.

You are right about Buddhism. (don't know much about Hinduism).

Another basic tenent of Buddhism is that you are in charge of your own destiny, not some invisible deity.

Another thing that I particularly like about Buddhism is that it focuses on the here and now, instead of focusing all the attention on some supposed afterlife that no one can be sure exists.

Well I'm a Christian I guess but I haven't been to church for two years and I've never been baptized. I dont really know a lot about religion so I'm not sure. I believe in God though and all that stuff. I dont agree with Atheists though because I dont understand how they cant believe in God and Heaven and all of that stuff. I mean do they think that once we die we live in the dirt for the rest of our lives?

I was just gonna point this thing out, I'm not saying that you didnt know it; and im not trying to cause trouble.

But if you are saying the above statement in saying that God is in charge of your destiny and the person is. It is false. I realize that it is false to what I believe, but it is to many Christianity religions or denominations..w/e. I believe that God knows what is in your destiny but does not control it. He doesnt make you do anything.

Yeah really. And how do they believe that we came to life? (Not to give any offense to any atheists here or anything..)

Ok, so technically God doesn't have a gun to anybody's head telling you what to do. But the choices God offers are "follow me and spend eternity in unending bliss" or "don't follow me and spend eternity in unimaginable suffering." To me, that doesn't constitute much of a choice.

Also, if God knows what is in your destiny, that implies your fate is pre-ordained.

I would say it's pretty safe to say that atheists believe in evolution/big bang.
