Madderest The DVD release is SCREWED UP!!

WB made some big boo-boos....I just finished watching the set and I am quite disappointed in it. First off, it looks like they used syndicated versions because the episodes without Diana Hyland have that second season open slapped on and several, if not all, of these have THE WRONG CLOSING CREDITS!!!! I can't believe they allowed this to come to market with these mistakes.... None of the episodes have the original Lorimar closing logo, instead we have that generic WB Television Distribution logo that was used for syndicated episodes.

YIKES...I put a hold on this at my local library, but it hasn't arrived. Sorry to hear that this release isn't up to par.

Cool

It's too bad these DVD's are sub par. But in the case of this series and in the light of how long we've waited for an official release I'll take subpar DVD's over no DVD's at all!

Another example of disrespect for an older TV show on DVD. I'm not interested to have DVD's of this show, but what WB did with this is inexcusable all the same. Studios need to do things right, or don't do them at all. From what I've seen, MPI is a good studio when it comes to classic TV on DVD. I like the job they did with Family Affair, good video and audio, every episode is uncut. It sounds like they've also done a good job with Here's Lucy and Donna Reed on DVD, I don't have those DVD's but from what I've read they are nice sets. MPI is one studio that seems to put a full effort into putting out high quality DVD's of classic TV shows. I wish MPI were the issuing studio of some of these series from Shout Factory, Shout has messed up many a time with edited episodes and audio problems on several of their DVD sets.

None of the episodes are syndicated versions. When ABC aired reruns of the show in the summer of 1977 they edited out the phone calls and references to Joan and replaced them with new scenes of Tom and the kids so a few of the episodes are from the ABC reruns.

Well that still means they are NOT the original network episodes...

I think WB just rushed this out to test the waters.....hopefully the other seasons will be done with more care.

They should have re-added the scenes with the dialogue and phone scenes--it would have made the episodes feel more complete and not leaving new (and old) viewers wondering why Joan isn't even mentioned.

the closing credits thing--there is no excuse for that.

I wasn't alive when the show began so it doesn't bother me too much, but I do understand the frustration. If they ever release season 2 though there's a pretty good chance they'll get it right. WB almost always has the complete original episodes on their dvd releases. You can't say that about Sony and Paramount. This set was just a rare exception, unfortunately.

I just got the copy I had a hold on from the library. I'll let you know my thoughts once I'm finished with it.

I believe I did elsewhere on the EiE board here. I too think this DVD was given totally shoddy treatment. The master copies of the episodes HAVE to be somewhere, would it have been THAT difficult for them to dig them up?

Just wondering if you plan on getting season 2 from your local library?

I hate when that happens! I still don't get why they have to edit the episodes anyway. I mean they are TV shows so obviously they were edited to begin with for the time allotted for commercials. Why can't they just show them in their entirety? But Marv does have a point... I guess if the only way to watch certain shows is on edited DVD's that's better than nothing.
