Digital Digest: '70s Sitcom "Alice" Coming to DVD from Warner Archive?
Saturday, June 02, 2012 by Skees We always like to follow the Warner Archive Facebook page because they always give a lot of interesting hints on upcoming releases. The classic '70 sitcom "Alice" (which actually ran well into the mid-'80s), a Warner property that fans have been wanting for years now, has thus far only seen a single disc Television Favorites release which is now out-of-print and leaving fans clamoring for more, although a glimmer of hope has been offered with the addition of the first season being available to purchase to view on your computer from Amazon Instant Video. But late last week, a fan asked about this series on the Facebook page, which elicited this response from Warner Archive: "Things are looking good for ALICE. Stay tuned!" That wording is very interesting, and seems to suggest that something may finally materialize on DVD (at least a MOD offering) from Warner Archive! The message is a bit different from what Warner Archive has stated in the past, including indicating that they'd like to do it, but there are source material issues. Given that this is our first real indication of a glimmer of hope, I wouldn't expect the series to appear anytime very soon, but it sounds like we've at least got something hopeful on the radar. http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2012/0...ce-coming.html |

I never been a fan of this kind of news no matter how good the signs are because as fans we want the only announcement that matters...."The release date"
All that stuff that's going on now could have been done behind the scenes and then just make the announcement. Especially when NO SEASONS have been released. If one or two had been released then this type of news would be ok |

I loved this show back in its original run, and would be estatic if they release it on DVD.

Warner Archive has never made traditional pre-release announcements three months in advance like the studios usually do for regular retail releases. They usually announce on the Monday before or even the same day (a Tuesday) that the title "is now available for sale" at wbshop.com.

Well it doesn't have to be that long in advance, just a annoucement that a show is now available instead of discussions of what show MAYBE available |

It is more than maybe available. You just don't know how to read that well, Solomon and you get worked up for nothing.

Hey Solomon, it is out tomorrow (June 12)! How's that for you? Now you know we know what we're doing before posting!
Synopsis: "...And if things work out she's going to stay awhile." And they sure did, resulting in "new girl" Alice sticking around for a triumphant nine season run that saw this new style sit-com become the standard bearer for the next generation of TV comedy. Alice is the story of Alice Hyatt (Linda Lavin), a recently widowed single mom who finds herself working as a waitress at an Arizona diner while caring for her pre-teen son, Tommy (Philip McKeon). The inimitable Vic Tayback plays Mel, the gruff owner of the diner, while Beth Howland and Polly Holliday play her co-workers, neurotic Vera and no-nonsense Flo. This 3-Disc, 24- Episode Collection collects the entire first season of the Bicentennial-era break-out hit, including the rarely seen pilot episode featuring Alfred Lutter from Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, the film inspiration for Alice. Guest stars include Batman's Adam West, Victor Buono, and Dark Shadow's Lara Parker. |
