I wonder witch opening TVLAND will used when they add I Love Lucy back to it schedule in June. the Animated Opening or the heart opening.

from it schedule they have her schedule for a Saturday June 2,2012 Marathon from 12pm-4pm

They went the opening that you usually see for I Love Lucy. It does seem like they either chopped the episodes or had more commericals than usual.

The editing is better with TVLand than with Hallmark and the visual quality of the show is as perfect as my DVDS of "I Love Lucy". It would have been nice to have the original stick figure openings like they used to but those visuals and better editing are worth the omission.

And they sped them up to warp speed (everyone sounds like a chipmunk) negating the video quality. Though we shouldn't expect any different seeing as they need 5 minutes of commercials every 2 minutes.

Makes a person wonder why they bother showing any TV show the way they show it. They would be better off just doing paid programming crap because all they show is commercials anyway. Thank God for DVD's!

Finally caught ILL on TV Land this weekend and all the previous posters are correct about the time compression. WOW! It was like listening to an Alvin and the Chipmunks record. As Hughsgirl said, at least we have the DVDs!

What a pity they are resorting to time compression. When Nick at Nite first carried I Love Lucy, they ran it in a 35 minute time slot so as not to edit OR time compress the episodes. I think time compression is more annoying to watch than editing the films. I recently watched the pilot for My Favorite Martian on Hulu which was compressed, and it was hideous. The worst example of this is back in the 1980s when I saw an episode of Bewitched in which the dialouge was unintelligible and the music sounded like a 33 1/3 rpm record played back at 45rpm. My friend who was watching My Favorite Martian and never notices technical things about such shows turned to me and asked me what was wrong with the film. Thank god we have the DVDs of I Love Lucy to properly enjoy it. As far as the opening goes, I am 60 years old and started watching ILL when I was about 6 or 7 when CBS ran it in the morning. The "Heart on Satin" was created for these showings in 1959. I think I speak for most people when I say this is the way most have seen the opening through the years, and I'm content with it. (It's nice to see the original openings as extras on the DVDs, though).

I too prefer the Heart on Satin considering that's what 99.9% of the viewing audience grew up with, me included. The stick figure introduction that's on the DVDs is nice to see for historical reasons but honestly after seeing it several times I found it boring and extremely dated due to the crude TV animation in the 50s. The Heart on Satin is timeless.

In regards to the time-compression, I find it rather shocking in the year 2012 it's that noticeable to the point where the soundtrack is plagued with "chipmunk syndrome." Even basic consumer-level NLE programs these days have an automatic pitch corrector built in. When stretched or compressed up to a certain point the pitch will remain the same and it's basically undetectable to the human ear. A lot of MeTV's shows are sped up but the audio retains the pitch so they do it right. TV Land can't even get a mundane detail correct. However for a videophile it's pretty exciting to know that they have FINALLY upgraded the masters for I Love Lucy that are being used for syndication distribution. Maybe the next time another network with better standards will air it respectably.

I haven't notice this time compression thing and need to study it more while I am watching them. I usually notice unusual things and this thing, I don't. I do notice that they take out chunks of scenes that Hallmark doesn't. Commercials before and after the shows would be ideal and the total episode sandwiched in between.

I am also very glad that I have all the DVD's as well.

The man who posts here who works for the company who made My Favorite Martian and My Living Doll has said that they are going to redo the Martian films without the compression. (Think of each cast member and the orchestra conducter drinking a gallon of coffee laced with uppers and then filming!)
