Cool Jim Parsons Officially Comes Out as Gay

Jim Parsons Officially Comes Out
May 23, 2012
by Sadie Gennis

Jim Parsons, who plays arrogant nerd Sheldon on CBS' hit comedy "The Big Bang Theory", has found a very modest way to announce that he is gay.

In an interview with the New York Times, Parsons discusses his recent work on Broadway, which includes playing a gay activist in The Normal Heart.

In reporting Parsons' affinity for the play, author Patrick Healy revealed something that has been long speculated.

"The Normal Heart resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment," he wrote.

While The National Enquirer "outed" Parsons in 2010 with news of a supposed engagement to partner Todd Spiewak, this is Parsons' first public acknowledgement of his sexuality.

Good for him and no offense at all for posting this (in fact, I'm glad you did), but in this day and age, it shouldn't be such a big headline when someone comes out. But sadly, I'm sure it was scary for him to do so and I hope he receives a positive response to the news.

I loved Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory!

Who knew? LOL

Seriously, I was MORE shocked about HIS age, than his sexuality.

I thought he was in his 20's.

he is 39!

That is the work of Hollywood to make him look that young. I thought he was a few years older than my younger brother like around 27 or 28

Me too! I had read about his sexuality but it was his age that made me go wow!

I've known for awhile that he was gay. I admire his bravery coming out like that publicly about his sexuality and I do hope that he gets a positive reaction from this. Those like Ellen DeGeneres and Rosie O'Donnell suffered a bit after coming out of the closet and it took them awhile to rebuild their careers again.

He's on a very hot show right now and I don't think coming out has had any adverse effect on his career. At least not that I can see.

Agreed. I hope that it stays that way for him.

That's true. Although I love her, I think Ellen just went about it the wrong way or else people weren't as accepting of it back then. I'm glad she's successful now though.
