was not one of the top ten shows being watched in the country? Right now the Office is thinking of created a spinoff for one of the characters but the show is not even in the top 20. So if the parent show is not being watched by a lot of people why would the spinoff have a lot of viewers?
So were there ever a spinoff that came from a Parent show that wasn't that popular? |

It's sort of hard to judge what shows are "hits" or not these days in my opinion. There's so many shows out there that just because a show isn't in the top 20 doesn't mean no one watches it. The Office has never been a huge, top 20, mass-appeal hit, but it has a large following and is currently NBC's highest-rated show, so for them it's a very sizable hit.

Well that's why I asked what other shows created spinoffs which was not a top 10 or 20 show because of the Office not being in that category. |

I can't really think of any but like I said, television has changed in the past 10-15 years so the barometers of a hit show are a little different.
Ooh wait I just thought of two. Buffy the Vampire Slayer spun-off Angel, and that show never even made the top 50. Bones spun-off The Finder this year, and that's not a top 20 show either. |

I guess I can use Diffrent Strokes as an example. |

Hmmm... this is hard...
but I'll think of one... Dawson's Creek was far from a top 20 hit when it spun-off it's low-rated, short-lived spin-off "Young Americans". DC was on the WB a network that never created a top 20 hit, but was popular with younger viewers. I don't believe Melrose Place was really a top 20 hit when it spun-off Models Inc, although a big hit for FOX and frequently in the top 10 weekly ratings, it was never a top 20 show in the yearly ratings. Likewise, Beverly Hills 90210 was a hit in the weekly ratings, frequently finishing in the top 10 or 20, but was never a top 20 show in the yearly ratings, and yet it spun-off Melrose Place. |

I think the bigger question is, " When was the last time a spinoff was created from a show that was clearly in decline?" Both Buffy and Melrose Place were big hits for their networks when the spinoffs began. Diff'rent Strokes was still on the rise back then too. Although the Office is still a hit for NBC, it clearly isn't the force that it used to be. I suppose you could use Bones as an example but it was still a solid show in the ratings until this year and it was derailed by the fact that it only had 13 episodes and was scheduled stupidly. As a fan of Bones, I never gave The Finder one look. I didn't even watch the pilot episode on Bones. lol

I was going to say friends but i think the show was still a top 10 in it's last season for NBC. But I'm a Office Fan and feel it's no reason to spin any character off just extend the show for more seasons or end it. |

I was going to say Three's Company but remembered that Three's a Crowd wasn't a spinoff. It was a continuation |
