David Hyde Pierce Recalls Kelsey Grammer Freaking Out Guest Stars & A Possible Reunio
Actor David Hyde Pierce remembers watching his co-star Kelsey Grammer rehearse with guest stars before an episode. "Kelsey's approach is very cavalier," he said. "He would be running the lines in the makeup room the night of the show, and you'd watch the color drain out of the guest star's face, because it seemed like Kelsey didn't know anything. But he'd get it in his head. He believed firmly in the spontaneity and an actor thinking as a real human being, which is what happens when you're coming up with what you're going to say in real life as opposed to having memorized it."
Pierce says he's determined never to do a reunion of the show. "Frasier was important for me," he said. "The people I got to work with, the time we spent. I don't want to mess with that.... I don't want people to see us and say, 'Wow. What happened?' It's bad enough when people see reruns and ask me, 'Wow. What happened?'" http://www.csmonitor.com/Books/2012/...See-TV/Frasier |

And I hope people don't really say that to him... that's horrible. What do they think happened?? People don't stay 35 forever. And he doesn't even deserve comments like that, anyway. He still looks great to me.

As for his looks, that is horrible to even think that someone would say that to him. I certainly hope he never hears that from anyone. I read in another interview that I posted on my DHP group page on FB that he said that syndication is depressing when he watches Frasier reruns b/c he looks so different now. I found that to be incredibly sad, in a way. I still think he's adorable!

Kelsey Grammer is great - the entire cast is great. It's been talked about on this message board about how great they work together and how other acters/actresses almost had certain roles and it would be so difficult to see others in those roles.
David Hyde Pierce is a down right legend in his own time. I watched his movie The Perfect Host and he down right scared me - he played it so well. Insults? No, this man has so much tallent, he deserves nothing but praise. Nominated for 5 Golden Globes. Another 20 wins & 32 nominations. Check it out at: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001383/awards When you're that good, aren't they supposed to deep freeze you and put you on display? Come on people, everyone ages. I think he looks great, but I completely respect any decisions he has for himself. God bless David Hyde Pierce! |

I am a bit crushed that we will never get a reunion show, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing now. But I can understand DHP's decision not to have a reunion show, the show and the cast were so special and important to him, he doesn't want to lose what they had when they were on the show. It probably really is for the best, but hey we have fan fiction for all the "reunion" stuff we can only dream of seeing. There are a great many fan fiction stories on ff.net that show the characters in present time, and they are all great. I have written a couple myself.
I am very proud of DHP and am proud to call myself a fan. He's brilliant. There will never be another Niles Crane and that's okay with me.

Andress, I feel you. I think a reunion would be great, but from what I read both from Kelsey and David, that will never happen. As far as David's view on this, I think he would be overwelmed by the love and support if one was ever make.

I think that, as much as actors and actresses love the shows that gave them their start, they aren't "fans" of those shows like we are. From what I can tell from what actors have said from this show and from other shows I love, they really aren't interested in going back, but more interested in going forward with the work they're doing. It seems like it's not that they wouldn't love seeing the people they worked with again, or even necessarily playing the character again, it seems it's more the storylines for a reunion show that concern them. So many actors have said basically the same thing-- that it was special the way it was and they are not sure a script could be written worthy of the show, and that they wouldn't want to do it if it wasn't as good or better than it was when it was on the air. Some feel the aged characters wouldn't be as interesting either. I can see those points, and I can certainly understand why an actor wouldn't necessarily want to go back in time too. And I kind of agree with them on the script thing... I know I would be really disappointed if they did a reunion show and it didn't do justice to the original. In all honesty, I would want it to be brilliant or not at all. Maybe we'll get a cast reunion at some point, in some random place. That would be nice.
