TV Ryan Murphy Confirms Who's Returning for "Glee" Season 4

"Glee" Creator Ryan Murphy Confirms Who’s Returning for Season 4
May 17, 2012
by Kate Stanhope

It's the question on the mind of every Gleek: who the heck is coming back for Season 4? According to "Glee" co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy, everyone is.

No, really. "We had a meeting, and you know we've become like a family, and I said to them, 'Anybody who wants to stay on the show will stay on the show,'" Murphy told Vulture. "Anyone who is a regular is coming back. Everyone said yes."

That not only means front-and-center seniors like Rachel (and fiancé/hip attachment Finn) and Kurt — whom the show will follow to performing arts school in New York come fall — but apparently Mercedes, Puck, Quinn, Santana and Mike as well.

With graduation just days away (Tuesday at 9/8c on Fox), very little is known about the other seniors' plans for next year. Quinn is headed to Yale, Santana recently received a cheerleading scholarship to the University of Louisville, and Puck has been very vocal about his dreams to start a pool-cleaning business in California.

However, whether or not Mercedes actually moves to Los Angeles to land that record deal is still unknown, as is Mike's fate.

Amber Riley, in particular, prompted questions about her Season 4 status after a series of nostalgic and emotional tweets last week.

"I think Amber was talking about that bittersweet feeling of, 'I'll never be in the choir room with that exact group of people.' At least that's what she told me,'" Murphy told the site.

"When I read that I said, 'I think people will misconstrue that.' She's excited about where her character is going. They all are. I wanted to do the right thing by all of them."

But don't get too excited just yet. Murphy did clarify that not everyone will be back for the full season.

"It doesn't mean everyone will be doing 22 episodes, but everyone wants to stay in our family and our world," he said. "I wanted to make sure those actors know that if they want to have a home, they have a home. If they want to explore new and different things while also having a home, that is also an option."

Although it might be a few days, if not a few months, before those post-graduation fates are fully revealed, Murphy said the cast was happy about taking the next step.

"When I told them all what the next season was, I think they all liked it because they all get to grow and be back to struggling. 'Where is my place in the world?'" he said. "For the most part, I've had really good talks with all the actors, and what I want to do they have loved. Cory Monteith was like, 'I love that Finn gets to do that. That's awesome.'"

I figured that Glee would pull a Beverly Hills 90210, and have all of the main cast attend the same college. That way the show won't lose most of its fans.
