I just got a TV Guide (July 1972) and I was reading through the listings and saw that Desi was on a week of Hollywood Squares. Didn't know that. Coincidently, a week of Password with Lucy was on at the same time.

That's cool!
![]() It's really too bad that Game Show Network doesn't air the old reruns of Hollywood Squares. I would love to see those! All they ever show is the new one with Whoopi Goldberg. I can watch that any time I want to on regular TV...but I don't want to watch it.

Yeah,I agree with you guys. Why put on a show on The Game
Show Network that you can watch in syndication on regular tv? 'Sides Paul Lynde was way funnier than Whoopie on any day. |

That's exactly what I thought the first time I saw that HS was on and it was...the new one.
Same goes with Rock 'n Roll Jeopardy. It's on VH1 already.

NBC used to tape over a lot of their daytime shows in the 1970s to save money on tapes, and then they'd burn the tapes when they were worn-out. Because of this, a lot of shows are believed lost, including "Hollywood Squares" and a lot of the early "Tonight" shows. This is why GSN never reruns the original HS shows. Supposedly, a bunch of original HS tapes just turned up somewhere in some stations vault, so maybe we'll see those sometime soon.
Apparently, no one at NBC at the time thought that there would be a market for these old shows. Too bad. |
