Default End of Down Home

I notice that my last thread on this page has twenty-one views and zero replies. As one more attempt to stimulate some conversation about this fine sereis, I am now going to commemorate those twenty-one views. Does anyone here remember a short-lived sitcom called "Down Home"? It took place in the fictional fishing village called Hadly Cove, Texas. I am not sure, but I believe that it was first experiemented with on Thursday Nights on NBC. This was in 1990. It got bumped very early in the game. However, in 1991, it was brought back and used as a filler on Saturdays Nights. This did not last long either. During its second installation, it took the place of a show that was more or less, a joke in its own time. Kind of on the idea of "Punky Bruster"! My guess would be that they probably had a few episodes already made by the time of its first failure and they simply aired them the second time around to fill some time while they were deciding what to do next. In any event, the series fizzeled out for good in the winter of 1991. Because this was twenty-one years ago, I am using this to commemorate the twenty-one views of my last attempt to stimulate some conversation about "Mad About You". I guess I can understand why "Down Home" did not last. Although I found some of the episodes mildly funny, I did not think that it had nearly as much going for it as "Mad About You"!

I never heard of Down Home, did it have any well known cast members? Is there some tie-in between it & Mad About You, like maybe through guest-stars or something?

The first thing that I am going to do is respond to what you wrote about having never heard of "Down Home". That is probably because of how short-lived it was and how insignificant it was, even in its own time. Now let us move to what you asked me about a tie-in between this show and "Mad About You". In the first place, it did not have any of the same actors or actresses and I do not remember there being any guest stars that appeared on both shows. The only person with any degree of fame that I remember ever appearing on "Down Home" was Randy Travis. The main connection that I made between the two shows has to do with the number twenty-one. If you look at all of my failed attempts to stimulate some conversation on this page, you can see that it is a virtual dead zone! The same can be said about the pages of "Caroline in the City" and "Gimme a Break!". I have been racking my brain trying to think of ways to stimulate some conversation about some of these shows that I got so much enjoyment from! When I run out of things to write about the show itself, I start threads about site traffic. I start by looking at previous threads that I have started that have no replies. I then look at how many views they have and try to think of something significant about that number. Sometimes, I write about a "Sesame Street" segment that had to do with that number. Every once in a while, another poster will be amused by that and post a response. This starts some conversation for a day or so. In this case, I looked at my last failed attempt to stimulate some conversation and saw that it had twenty-one views. I associated this with the fact that the last episode of "Down Home" was shown twenty-one years ago. On top of this, you could make a case that there is an association between "Down Home" and "Mad About You" in that they are both situation comedies and were both shown on prime-time on NBC. I am this answers your question!
