the show improved and later received a full season? I can't think of any show that only received 13 eps and then after that season the ratings were so good that it lead to a full season.
My point is why not just cancel the show now and be done with it? |

Parks & Recreation was given 16 episodes and pushed to mid-season in Season 3 and was then picked up for a full season in Season 4, and another full season the following year.
Cougar Town was put in a similar situation this year and was just renewed for a fourth season, to air on TBS. There are also several shows that were picked up for 13 episodes and eventually received a back nine, such as Happy Endings this year. It's not a de-facto cancellation at all. |

So if the Office receive 13 eps does that mean the show will air in the fall or spring? |

Parks and Recreation Season 3 Premiere only happened(was pushed back) Mid-Season(During Winter-Spring 10-11)because Amy Poehler was Pregnant. Same thing with 30 Rock Sixth season, It's was only pushed to Mid Seoasn because Tina was Pregnant. |

It could go either way. NBC is supposedly announcing their line-up tomorrow so we'll know for sure then.
NBC has ordered a bunch of 13-episode seasons this year...Community, 30 Rock, Up All Night, and possibly The Office and Whitney. I suspect some will run in the fall (with a possible option for the back 9 if they do well, save for 30 Rock and probably The Office if it's really for 13) and some will be held for mid-season. |

I don't understand what the point is of renewing second year shows for only 13 episodes as it will take longer for them to hit syndication.
