version of the ABC 1966-1971 gothic classic soap opera.Does anyone remember 1970's film "House of Dark Shadows" directed by the late Dan Curtis, and and starred original cast members the late Jonathan Frid (as Barnabus Collins, who else),Kathryn Leigh Scott and most of the rest of the series' cast, and 1971's follow-up "Night of Dark Shadows"(sans./without Jonathan Frid)?

I am old enough to remember seeing House of Dark Shadows in the theater in 1970. Produced by Dan Curtis, this was a faithful version of the Barnabas story line with the original cast. I remember coming home from seeing it and telling my Mother that it was a lot bloodier than the series, and a lot more slickly produced, too. I now have purchased a download on Vudu of this and seeing it again brings back memories. I didn't see Night of Dark Shadows until it played on television in the early 90s. I didn't think it was quite as good, but then I didn't realize that it was heavily edited by the studio before being released.

"House of Dark Shadows" was a slicker, bloodier, made production of what was the original 13 week story arc intended for the Barnabas character before he became a ratings draw and plans were changed. Frid has stated that he was offered 13 weeks and that would finance a planned move to California. He had no intention of it being long-term either.
