Default Remembering My Uncle Mike

My Uncle Mike Lisowski of Stickney (near Chicago), IL passed away in his sleep late Tuesday night. He had been diagnosed with stage iv melanoma (skin cancer) in early 2011. He was 58.

I have many great memories of him from my childhood. We played a lot of table hockey, Strato-O-Matic baseball and just had fun together. We both loved sports and went to games. My family moved to St. Louis when I was about 10 and later to Atlanta, so I didn't get to see him as often after that. I always looked forward to visiting with him.

My uncle was a table hockey legend in the Chicago area, a 7-time champion, and one of the better players in the country. He was a very good and kind man to all who knew him. My family and I will miss him very much.

It's been a tough couple of years for me with my dad in the later stages of Alzheimer's disease and my uncle's battle with cancer. Thanks for any thoughts and prayers for my family.

TJ, I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. Cancer is a terrible thing. Fifty-eight is a young age to pass away at. Your uncle sounds like he was a very nice guy. I'm sure he will be remembered both for his hockey skills and for the kind of person he was as you mentioned. Also, I'm sorry to hear your father is suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

So sorry for your loss. Remember the good times, no one and nothing can take those away from you.

My thoughts and prayers to you and your family Todd. It's a big loss but you're handling it quite well and I commend you for that. He is in a better place for sure.

Please keep all of our thoughts when you go to the funeral this week in Chicago.

Todd, sorry to hear about your uncle and also that your father has Alzheimer's. The same thing happened with my grandfather so I definitely understand what you and your family are going through.
