Thumbs up ABC Cancels 'GCB'

ABC’s two bubble midseason drama series are heading in an opposite direction. Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal is being renewed for a second season, while GCB is being canceled. (ABC’s third midseason drama River, has been dead for awhile.)

I truly hope it was the ratings that caused ABC to cancel "GCB" and not the so-called "controversy." I really enjoy this show and think it has a great underlying message.

Confused

Wow, all that hype and it lasts for just like 4 episodes?

I tried to give it a chance but I found it very insulting and very unfunny. I turned it off halfway through.

I agree. I'm a Christian but this show was really insulting to my faith. Watched two episodes, that was it.

Just like The Playboy Club and the Charlie's Angels reboot, as far as that goes!

I'm outraged at how the Media belittles ALL Faiths these days. Christians are portrayed as hypocrites, or as self-righteous right-wing fanatics hell-bent on killing Abortion Doctors or firebombing Pornography Shops. Jews are portrayed as corrupt Businessmen or shifty Lawyers, while Muslims are portrayed as suicidal Terrorists.

It wasn't always that way, There was once a "Television Code" that broadcasters VOLUNTARILY used to guide them in the programs they produced. One of its guidelines said "God, no matter what the faith, was to be treated with the UTMOST RESPECT". That code was tossed out by the courts in the mid 1980s, and now we have the programs we see as a result of this. The Bible says whatever a person sows, that's what they'll reap. Broadcasters and Pay-TV Providers are now LOSING CUSTOMERS. 1,000,000 People "Cut the cord" in 2011. They now seek their programming from "Other Sources such as the Internet, OTA and yes, Home Video. As for most of today's Programming, all I can say is Garbage in, Garbage out!

I watched the pilot and I didn't get into it. To me it wasn't that funny and it didn't grab my interest.

I'm not sad to see this one go.

Could it possibly be that this show hit too close to home for those who found it "prejudiced" against Christians? I consider myself to be a good Christian, and was not offended by the portrayal of catty women here anymore than on Dynasty or the 1939 classic film The Women. Or are all Christian women saintly creatures who never say a bad word about anyone? "Ohhh! The hypocrisy of it all!" GCB is set within a church, yet nothing anti-religous is actually said. Dynasty was set in Denver, yet nothing anti-Denver is actually said. The Women was set in New York City, yet nothing anti-New York is actually said.

I totally agree. The show is much more about hypocrisy and a lot less about religion.

Yes, the show never mocked religion. It mocked some silly neighbors in Texas.

I don't know. I don't go to church but I believe in God and was raised in a Christian home. My taste in shows are all over the place though. I like family shows and some adult shows. My favorite show of all time is Dallas. My problem with the show is these women are people I wouldn't want to be friends with. They claim to be Christians but they aren't really. I think that was the point of the show. They just hit you with that point over and over again. I just found it very insulting. They all tried to be funny too but the show didn't make me laugh once. I just sat there and said to myself, "Why am I watching this crap?" It isn't half as good as Desperate Housewives used to be. I'm glad it's gone.
