Too Soon? Whitney Houston’s Family To Star In Reality Series For Lifetime

Should a teenage girl grieving over the passing of her mom be the subject of a reality series? Three months after Whitney Houston’s sudden death, her family has signed on to do a reality series. Lifetime has picked up The Houston Family Chronicles, a 10-episode docu-series to premiere later this year. It will follow the lives of Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, who now manages her estate, Pat’s daughter Rayah, Whitney’s brother Gary, daughter Bobbi Kristina and mother, Grammy Award-winning singer Cissy Houston, as they try to pick up the pieces after the pop star’s untimely death. The series will follow Pat and her husband, Gary as they try to support Whitney’s teenage daughter Bobbi Kristina. In that, Pat enlists the help of her and Whitney’s inner circle, including Grammy Award winner Dionne Warwick and Gospel legend CeCe Winans. “The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family,” said Lifetime’s EVP Rob Sharenow. “In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.”

Pat Houston said that over the past few years she had been developing an unscripted project about her and her family with producers Tracey Baker Simmons and Wanda Shelley. “The unexpected passing of Whitney certainly affects the direction of the show,” she said. “However, it is my hope that others will be enlightened as they watch our family heal and move forward.”

It takes years to develop a reality show that is supposed to be "unscripted"? Gimme a damn break. It seems as if the mainstream entertainment industry has officially morphed into a cesspool of greedy talentless hacks, far too many of whom have this weird obsession of digging up corpses and exploiting them for all they're worth. If a show of this disgusting nature garners many viewers well then I truly feel sorry for the general public. For it will be precisely at that point our sensibilities in taste and class have devolved to the point of no return.

There was one on A&E called, "The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty." I *think* they starting filming it before Michael died, but it got picked up for more episodes after he passed.

Before Whitney died, Bobbi Kristina was talking about getting her own reality show. It was a bad idea then and an even worst idea now. I was hoping the grownups in her life would be there to shield her from the media and guide her along a safe path, but it sounds like they are a part of the problem. I'm afraid a show like this would push the poor girl over the edge.

We are in a reality show glut these days and it's time that networks backed off and started saying no to these programs. Also, Bobbi Kristina was already in a reality show when her mother and Bobby Brown were still together and it was a trainwreck. She looked embarrassed to be doing it. Why would she want to go down that route again? Does she really need the money?

This is exploitation, pure and simple.

And given the dysfunctional environment she grew up, it doesn't surprise me that Kristina is taking part of this.

And Cissy Houston should know better. She is trying to live off her daughter's fame, because she never reached the heights of popularity that Whitney did.
