Los Angeles (CNN) - Jessica Simpson has given birth to a daughter in a Los Angeles hospital, the actress-singer said in a statement posted on her website Tuesday morning. Simpson, 31, is engaged to be married to the father, former NFL pro Eric Johnson. "Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl, Maxwell Drew Johnson," Simpson said. The baby weighed in at 9 pounds, 13 ounces and measured 21.75 inches long, according to the website. "We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received," Simpson wrote. "This has been the greatest experience of our lives!!" There is still no official word on when Simpson and Johnson will get married.

I feel sorry for the little girl, stuck with a very masculine name. Poor kid.

I agree, Monika. Maxwell is a family name, I think it's Jessica's fiance mom's maiden name. But at least name her Drew Maxwell, not the other way around!!

And again, celebrities doing it again, they have the kid THEN get married. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but why not get married first?? What the heck is the hold-up? It seems this is the norm of alot of celebrities.

Oh No

I still remember when Jessica first hit big in 1999 with "I Wanna Love You Forever". At the time, she was a devout Christian girl from Texas who vowed to abstain from sex unless she was married. Now look at her. I know a lot of people may disagree with me, but I totally feel she sold out and compromised herself. Sad, really.

Yeah I always thought it was ironic that their dad was a pastor yet both daughters get knocked up.

Does Jessica even sing anymore? I always hear about her fashion stuff.

I'm definitely not a fan of all this having a baby before you get married business. The big white wedding 1-2 years later (if ever) is a joke. If you plan on staying together, why not get married before the baby comes?

Then again, their dad is REALLY creepy. If my dad ever said this about me, I would put myself up for adoption!!!

“Jessica never tries to be sexy. She just is sexy,” Joe Simpson told the New York Post’s PageSix.com in 2004. “If you put her in a T-shirt or you put her in a bustier, she’s sexy in both. She’s got double Ds! You can’t cover those suckers up!”

Both sisters got pregnant out of wedlock (even though Ashlee did marry her baby's father before the baby was born) and each has a divorce under her belt (Ashlee from Pete Wentz and Jessica from Nick Lachey). Maybe they should've stayed in Texas instead of Hollyweird.

Thumbs up

Congrats to Jessica and her fiance. Not crazy over the name, but happy for the three of them. I've always liked Jessica. She has a fantastic voice.

I totally agree!

Which begs the question: Will she get a silver hammer someday?
