TV What nationality were the Douglas'

I am a little confused about this, because :1)In some episodes,Bub is heard singing "When Irish eyes are smiling"(Uncle Charley never did ).Bub and Uncle Charley's last name is O'Casey, meaning they are Irish. 2)In a 2-parter Steve,Bub,Mike,Robbie and Chip travel to Scotland(or was it Ireland?)3)Bub leaves for ireland to visit his sick cousin Kathleen. and 4)This is really confusing, because towards the end of the series in California,we are introduced to Steve's cousin Fergus, from Scotland. Now back to the main question:What nationality were the Douglas'? A)Irish B)Irish-Scottish or C)Scottish?

Bub was the boys' maternal grandfather (Steve's father-in-law) and he was Irish. That would make the boys at least part Irish. I'm not a fan of the "Fergus" episodes so maybe someone else can help you with that part.

Cool

Bub and Charley O'Casey were definitely Irish . I remember the episodes where Bub, Steve, and the boys visit Scotland . Bub said "If we'd gone to Ireland, my family would've had a celebration that'd put you in bed for a week !", and Steve said "In Scotland, they want a chance to stand back and look you over first !" . It's been many years since I saw that episode, but that was the general idea . Fergus MacDouglas was from Scotland . Steve was Scottish, and he married an Irish woman . Her relatives were Bub, Charley, and cousin Kathleen . Steve's relatives included Fergus MacDouglas, so the information about Steve's, Bub's and Charley's relatives fits together perfectly .

Perfectly put, Prince. Right on all counts. I remember in the b/w shows Bub and the whole family go to Ireland and several episodes are dedicated to this Ireland trip, Bub sees his Aunt or some old doll in the family, Steve goes for a bike ride with Mariette Hartley. But I don't recall the family visiting Scotland. Did they? What happened there? I've seen every episode, so maybe I'm just not remembering. Anything of interest happen in Scotland that may jog my memory?

Question

Now you have ME wondering ! The scene I mentioned only makes sense when you realize that the Irish are likely to have "a celebration that'd put you in bed for a week" and the Scottish "want a chance to stand back and look you over first" . The Irish don't "want a chance to stand back and look you over first", and the Scottish wouldn't have "a celebration that'd put you in bed for a week" . Mind you, my ancestors are Scottish and Irish, so I'm stereotyping my own people . During the trip to Scotland I referred to, Chip met a young boy named "Richard Douglas", and Chip said "My name is Richard Douglas, but everybody calls me 'Chip' !" . It's been many years since I saw that episode, so that's all I can remember . Does any of that ring a bell ?

Question

I did find some information about a fourth season episode where Steve and his family go to Scotland . Episode # 113 ( "Scotch Broth" ) was first shown on September twenty -- sixth, 1963 . The summary on Wikipedia said "The Douglases go to Scotland to see their castle ." and the summary on TV.Com said "The Douglas family inherit a castle in Scotland from their Scottish Grandfather and the whole family descends upon Sheehan Bridge to see it . Not only does "The Castle" turn out to be an entire village pub in the highlands, but other members of the clan give them a freetly welcome ." ( "freetly ?" ) . Is this the same episode I mentioned above ? Did Fergus MacDouglas first appear in this episode ? The summary of the episode where Fergus MacDouglas visited America called the town "Sithian Bridge" .
