Post Bring Back Uncut Episodes!

Hi All!
As a devoted sitcome junkie, one of my biggest pet peeves is when a station like Nick at Night or TV Land, or whatever acquires an episode they ALWAYS had to chop out like 3-5 minutes for worthless garbage like the Psychic Lady, or some commercial for a record, or the Omlette Maker guy. This is an insult to classic tv and IMO, it's like ripping the pages out of a classic novel. When was the last time we had a classic series from the 1950's-1970's shown in it's original uncut format. I think Brady Bunch is the most severely edited on Nick at Nite. What gets me, is the network restored some footage that TBS took out years ago but edited it's own footage that TBS left in. (i.e Myron the Mouse getting lose in Carol's room is completely gone in Nick version) Odd Couple has the same problems on TV Land. Sometimes the networks will remove ONE LINE from an episode that might be one of the funniest. What's up with that? And now Leave it to Beaver, since returning to TV Land has some small edits in it! I think when I Love Lucy first came to Nick at Night, they showed it uncut/restored the original prints. We should start an email/letter writing campaign to the networks to bring back lost footage to these episodes!

TV Land and Nick at Nite really has no excuse to air edited shows. Many think it's so that they can put in more commercials and they really don't have to do that because they get their money from all of us who has cable and satellite . When we pay our bill, they receive cable fees and the amount is large. When they get their shows from Paramount and other studios, they can get the unedited shows if they so choose but they don't. I guess they don't want to make Columbia House mad if they showed uncut episodes. It would cut in to their profits. There was an article where the writer asked why isn't there a network that would show uncut classic tv shows that would be along the lines of what American Movie Classics does.

Jack1000 is right. There should be a petition to Nick at Nite and TV Land to stop cutting and editing their shows.

By the way, when I checked the petition to Nick at Nite and TV Land to remove the voice-overs and split screens from the closing theme and credits, there were 1770 total signatures. Even with that many signatures, they still blabber over and crunch the credits. Are they ignoring us or something?

I agree 100%, but Nick never listens to their fans. I don't know why a network can't be dedicated for the showing of uncut classic TV for a premium.

They should at least air them uncut on TVLand, and maybe show one episode of every Nick at Nite show per night so episodes from both channels are shown unedited.

One of the worst-edited series I can remember was M*A*S*H. When it aired locally (Cincinnati area), the station the showed it or possibly the distributor cut the hell out of it. Scenes upon scenes were taken out to make room for more commercials. At least on FX, they seem to be shown a little more complete.

Let's see here... TV Land shows edited shows, long commercials, split screen, and Tim Conway can't shut up and their motto is TV Satisfaction guaranteed ?

I sort of think this is kind of crazy. I mean, they bring you 24 hours of service on TVLand and a full nights worth of service on Nick-at-Nite with no infomercials, yet you complain. If they're going to remove some of the edits they've made then they have to put in infomercials. You make your pick: More episodes of good sitcoms, or infomercials, ya can't have both, so ya gotta choose one or the other.

I think I could tolerate a few hours of informercials in the wee hours of the mornings if it would allow them to show everything uncut

I'm sorry but gameshows and sitcoms are diff'rent.Nobody edits gameshows simply because we want to see winning. When it comes to sitcoms you have just extra things left that they feel free to edit out.Like in a MTM ep on TVLand I read about:They edited out the famous "Mister Grant you can only take 4 you'll have to put two of those back" line.Things that make GREAT sitcoms GREAT!

JT, don't talk.. Shhh :-P Thank you for playing. We have some nice consolation prizes for you at the door :-)

Now, on to the infomercials thing. While you may not care if you have infomercials, many people WHINE when they have infomercials. They believe "a network dedicated to one thing should ALWAYS air that!" It's very sad really. I agree with you, though.

Ya notice how more people liked me then not? And how the moderators always support me? Furthermore, I'm not STUPID! You SAID WHO YOU WERE! My gosh, how crazy are you? "I'm GameShows from the GSN Message board", then something like "You don't know me, but I know you". Ooo.. I'm scared. Tell them about those, and tell them about YOUR stupidity. There are some consolation prizes for you AT THE DOOR, Mr. JT.

You know that little black bar across the bottom of the screen on TNN? They could use it to air ads for the sponsors (have it display the names of the sponsors, kind of like that sports ticker with the Burger King logo during the college football season) instead of butcher the shows and take out content.

If you want to write to N@N, here's the address:

Nickelodeon
c/o Viacom, Inc.
1515 Broadway
New York, NY 10036

Attn: Audience Relations
