This is the first I'm hearing of this mystery. Fascinating stuff. From the NYT article:

An inquest held just across the Thames from MI6’s headquarters here has brought forth details of the bizarre and lonely death in August 2010 of Gareth Williams, a 31-year-old rising star in supersecret counterterrorism work. He was found in a fetal position, arms crossed on his chest, locked inside a duffel bag resting in an unfilled bathtub at the government flat assigned to him in the upscale Pimlico district of London.

His naked body had been in the bag for a week before it was discovered, so badly decomposed that the police and pathologists have been unable to determine whether he was murdered in what his family’s lawyer has suggested to the court was a plot by others skilled in the “dark arts” of spy work.

It looks like he was into some mildly kinky gender-bending stuff, but I think it would be possible for a murderer to plant a "claustrophilia" search on his web browser. It's more likely than not that someone else was in the room with him when he got into the bag (or was placed in the bag), but even that is not 100% certain. I actually read the article mentioned about people's death bed regrets...a friend linked to it on facebook...so I'm not sure I would place much weight on it as evidence of suicide.

One thing I found interesting when looking at the crime scene photos is that his dining table and chairs keep moving around in the room. You can also see indents in the carpet where the legs of the furniture had been placed previous to being moved.

An item on the dining table is later seen on the TV stand, other items on the table are in some photos and not others, an orange wig is on a chair then it's gone, a shirt is laying over the back of a dining chair, then in another photo, the shirt is folded differently then placed on the chair, which has been moved across the room. Definitely some tampering with the crime scene by investigators, imo.

There's also talk of his laptop being scrubbed before being surrendered for inspection and several memory sticks and other evidence being overlooked for weeks/months.
