Default Who was/were your favorite sponsor(s) &/or commercials?

I know the show had some prominent sponsors over the years like Kodak, Coca Cola, Quaker Oats -- to name a few. But there were many through the 14 year span. And some great commercials.

What/Who were your favorite sponsors or commercials on the show.

I really liked the early Listerine and Hotpoint commercials. During the later years the Gas commercials were kind of neat.

What are your favs?

I have a Keds commercial that is one of my favorites. Harriet shows the tiny Keds they have for their grandson (June and David's oldest son). I also liked the Coca Cola ones

Thumbs up

No contest for me - Mary Tyler Moore as the Happy Hotpoint Elf.

I really liked the Kodak commercials. The one where Ozzie is plugging color film and tells the world your regular camera will handle color film is a classic. Kodak must have been concerned that people thought they would have to buy another camera to use color film. That seems so simple and innocent by today's standards.

I'm shocked that Kodak, in an effort to promote color film, didn't pony up and help Ozzie in funding the series to be shot in color! I think if the series had started color production earlier, it might have had a better life in syndication.

I easily remember the show being on Friday nights with alternating sponsorships of Hotpoint one week and Listerine the next.

While the Hotpoint sponsorship makes older viewers think of Mary Tyler Moore as "Happy Hotpoint", it might be remembered that during those years, the appliances used in the kitchen set on the TV show were Hotpoint Appliances. As such, they promoted the sponsor with-in the show, itself.

Listerine promoted good health. One of the usual commercials then for that product advised that if you had been out in wet weather, etc. that day to gargle with Listerine that night.

I wish they still gave that kind of advice in commercials. Maybe I wouldn't run into so many germy people.

TV "Every Day's a Holiday with Hotpoint!"

We talk about product placement today as if it's some new horrific phenomenon, but no TV show of its time did more to help this than "The Ozzie and Harriet Show," as the singing Hotpoint intro of the 1952-56 years referred to "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet."

Besides Mary Tyler Moore as "Happy Hotpoint," most every early O&H episode had extensive scenes shot in Harriet's kitchen where they could showcase her Hotpoint refrigerator, range, dishwasher, washer, dryer, water heater, etc...and some of the commercials were set in the kitchen, talking about the newest Hotpoint refrigerator, range, dishwasher, etc....

In the Kodak years, the opening sequence showed David coming out the door with a camera around his neck (and in the closing sequences shown on RetroTV to this day, you'll see a package of Kodak film at the bottom of the screen, which is hilarious since Kodak no longer makes photo film for consumer use!).

Even Ozzie admitted that he had to explain to Aunt Jemima representatives that "we didn't eat pancakes for supper" and to the Coca-Cola Company that "we didn't drink Cokes for breakfast."

Funny they didn't have a car sponsor!

The Aunt Jemima commercials always make me hungry! Think I will have pancakes for dinner tonight, and Coke for breakfast!

Like I mentioned in a thread I made....Aunt Jemima! Loved those commercials.

Also loved the obvious product placement of coke brand lol I recall a scene in the episode David's Golf Story and Harriet is serving cokes and sandwiches and another scene a female newspaper editor offered David the drink too. It's like the only liquid they drank was coke, milk, and water.

Dying to try those buckwheat pancakes after seeing the irrepressible Ricky squawking about not getting the buckwheat kind.

I don't think Aunt Jemima makes a buckwheat pancake mix any more. Haven't seen it in the stores since the 70s. (Sorry, bliss.)

As Oz would say "darn"

Is any kind of Aunt Jemima pancake mix still available in stores? I've seen the Jemima syrup (lite version). The stores that I visited tend to carry Bisquick and other brand names but not THE brand from Ozzie and Harriet.

Milk was a sponsor of the show too and it fits the wholesomeness of the Nelson family.

I loved the commercial where Rick has a huge party and everyone does the twist (yes even a 22 year old Rick got those hips swinging) and everyone runs towards the cooler of milk like it's the end of the world.

I'm no fan of milk but at least it's a healthier alternative rather than bottles of coke.
