Or in other words what do you like about television these days? Since a lot of people seem to slam modern TV in general, I'm just curious as to what you may like about television nowadays?

Absolutely nothing. I dislike the programs, the commercials, the hyper-kinetic editing styles, the nauseating sleaze, the pop-up promos, and probably a million other little things. I used to basically love "television," in the generic sense. Now I find it wholly unbearable, and limit myself almost exclusively to dvd's of older shows.
But if I'm absolutely FORCED to find a positive amidst the endless revulsion I feel, I'd cite one thing: on weather forecasts, the modern-day radar technology heralding approaching storms is damned good! |

I think there's a lot of great things about contemporary TV. Yes, there's a lot more crap on but that comes with so many channels in today's world. On the flip side, there are some real high quality comedies and dramas that come out. Not everyone has the same taste but there is something for everyone IMO. There are plenty of well-written, expertly produced and acted shows on TV. There's no need for grouches to lament yesteryear for TV when shows from that time are readily available too. Just find a show that fits your taste. I'm sure there's several out there.

There are some good shows out there. You just have to look harder through all that reality crap that infiltrates the airwaves. Luckily with a DVR you can program your own schedule and avoid it all.

I'd have to say the "best" thing about modern television is availability. We no longer have to be slaves to the schedule networks scheme up. A single show can be watched by many different means outside of sitting down when it originally airs. Between DVR, DVDs, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, online streaming, etc. you can basically watch what you want, when you want. A person can make their own programming to fit their schedule.

I always heard laughter is the best medicine and good for the soul so I try to watch shows that make me laugh and try to avoid violence and tear jerker shows. Being sick and living in bed is not easy, I need all the comedy I can get. I always LOVED sitcoms and adore comedy shows but the shows today don't even make me even snicker. It would make my life so much easier if I could find current shows that were funny....to me. |

There are plenty of shows out there today that match or even beat classic TV. People who whine and complain just aren't looking very hard. Some of the absolute best and most acclaimed TV shows have been from the past 10 years:
The Sopranos Arrested Development Six Feet Under The Wire Deadwood Curb Your Enthusiasm 30 Rock Parks & Recreation Community Mad Men Breaking Bad Modern Family It's all a matter of opinion of course. But these shows have huge followings and tons of people raving about them. Now there is certainly a lot of horrible horrible crap on TV. But there's also more things on TV, so more room for crap. The amount of quality shows is no less than any other decade. |

The only thing that I really like about modern stuff is Family Feud w/Steve Harvey; he's very funny to me.
