Default Who gave the pilot a try?

I'm kind of sort of already forming a thing for this show. The pilot was a bit awkward, but, really, what pilot isn't? Aside from that, the characters in it are quite interesting to me. Just watching them...being messes...these are the things that warm my heart. I'd recommend giving it a shot. The pilots up on youtube.

I feel so badass watching an HBO show. This is a new thing for me.

Here's a huffpost review I'll throw in as a bonus.

I really like it! I thought it was pretty confident for a pilot and I'm already loving the characters and the ensemble show of the feel. Looking forward to see where this goes.

i really had no interest in any politics-based show, but Robyn MADE me watch it.

it was actually pretty good; but a little sickening to think that some of those Washington insiders are probably as bad or worse than the parody. also weird to see Anna Chlumsky all-growed-up, she was great in it.

Default Too much g-damned, mother fking, bullst profanity!

What I liked:

Julia Dreyfuss is a nice looking woman and I think she looks good.

The dude who played Buster Bluth on Arrested Development has a part.

Disliked:

It's a typical HBO show. HBO has never made anything that wasn't meh to pure garbage. The only show I sort of liked and followed was The Sopranos.

One thing is all the s-words and f-words, constant f and s words. For the record, I like to swear. I say the s-word and the f-word or the variation thereof about 10 times a day at least. I'm not a prude. But an HBO show uses s and f-words because they can and the networks cannot. This makes them somehow cutting edge. Shows like The Sopranos and Oz used a lot of s and f-words but that was in the context of the environment of the show (the Mob and Prison.)

The problem is that people like my parents, and especially my father, who would not shy from a show like this, would with all the profanity. Again, I think the excess of the profanity is just because HBO could do it. If my post on this message board had as much profanity, I would be banned. Just saying.

There is a lot of tit and butt nudity on HBO shows too, because, hey they are HBO and can do that. I wouldn't mind seeing Julia naked, but I don't see that happening.

Honestly? The show feels more like "Old Christine: Vice President" than anything else. Not even "Elaine Benes: Vice President" because Elaine wasn't constantly whining and actually had a backbone. The other characters aren't particularly compelling (and Tony Hale seems to think he's still on Arrested Development), and the alleged political humor isn't very clever or incisive. And ending an episode (the second one) on a poop joke? Really?

I'll freely admit to having high expectations for this show, and I can't help but feel highly disappointed. I was looking forward to something witty, clever and satirical, but clearly they're shooting for "middle-of-the-road" lowbrow humor and banking on the novelty of hearing JLD swear.

I don't have HBO and just came across this thread and was trying to figure out if the character was a cross between Christine and Elaine or a different personality all together. Is this still on? Seeing this is an old thread, if so I am going to try to find a place online to watch and see if I like it. I LOVED Elaines character and liked Christine...at first. Then it got annoying!

I wasn't too taken with the pilot, but the show grew on me. I know it doesn't quite fit the definition, but I almost see it as a modern-day screwball comedy. And there are very few screwballs. A screwball usually involves rapid-fire comedy with overlapping dialogue, juxtaposition of sophistication with slapstick and silliness, and eccentric supporting characters played by well-known character actors. I am wondering if anyone would be willing to check out our new show, "Tymania", which, I think, is as much a screwball as "Veep". Warning: 18+ audience. If you search youtube for "Tymania the Series" it should come up. Thanks.
