We all know the end result in the finale, but during its run, what were some circumstances that you feel Mary, Lou, Ted and Murray could have been terminated but for whatever reason, were not?

I can think of two right off the bat: Mary's joke obituary in "Better Late...." (Well, she was suspended, if I remember rightly!). And Ted's on-air prayer from "Ted Baxter Meets Walter Cronkite." And let's face it, w/ Ted, there was an excuse to fire him nearly every day! LOL!

When Ted was co-hosting the news with Gordie and made all the teastless Polish jokes that the station had to apologize for.
When Mary went to jail, think without Lou's support, the station could have dumped Mary,Ted was such a coward,he readily spilled all he knew, which wasn't much, when asked! |

One instance where this REALLY stuck in my mind was during a season 6 episode (can't remember which one). That jackass director duped Mary into some vague verbal authorization to buy a helicopter while she was unknowingly in charge. Lou comes back, discovered the chopper in his parking space, and was furious with Mary.
In the real world, a huge financial decision like that would require paperwork and signed authorization from Mary before he ran out and bought the damn thing. Not only was it unrealistic for Mary to be in hot water for this, but it was so obvious that the director would have been canned immediately for spending $100,000 willy nilly without proper authorization. I feel this is one of the very few instances in the show where they dropped the ball in regards to plausible plot details. |

This one's a no-brainer. The episode where Lou confided in Mary he had slept with Lou Ann and she let it slip out. He was so mad, you could clearly see him struggle to contain himself.
