What Would You Have Wanted More? A Finale to 'All in The Family' Or 'The Jeffersons?'

Two classic shows, both in the same sitcom universe and both didn't have a proper "send off" or final episode so to speak. If you could only choose one, which one would you rather have the finale and why?

Probably the Jeffersons since AITF was pretty much wrapped up and was just a continuation of the life of Archie without Edith and his Daughter. It would have been nothing to really wrap up or close out because it was just Archie and Stephanie

Now for the Jeffersons it was so many holes to close up like

Florence's love life
Bentley's love life
The Jeffersons maybe moving out
The Willises maybe moving out

The Jeffersons did get sort of a proper send off on the Fresh Prince of Belaire.

AITF never got a real sendoff they just ended the show with no resolution to anything. Archie still at the bar, widowed, facing the prospect of living alone (Stephanie and Billie wouldn't be living with him forever). Mike and Gloria broken up, Edith dead...what a horrible way to leave a beloved show (and its fans!) hanging after over a decade of loyalty and affection.

Still burns my behind to this day.

If they weren't going to have Mike and Gloria on any longer (and they couldn't since the two actors wanted out), they should have allowed "The Stivics Go West' to be the last episode. There was more 'closure' with that, and no one ended up miserable.

I agree with that retro, it spoiled everything for me about the legacy of AITF

I personally think the Archie Alone episode when Edith dies is the REAL CLOSURE of the show because at that point, we know the Kids are living out West, and now know that Edith has passed. So the show really didn't need a final episode

Don't you think that would have been too harsh to end things, especially with a sitcom?

The fans had invested too much time and heart into the show to have it end with Archie beside himself with grief; Good Lord, what a depressing way to end a comedy series, even one with dramatic overtones!

For me, nothing that happened after Season Eight is real. All the rest is just overkill and greed.

No I was saying that episode pretty much wrapped up the Bunker Family situation and no other closure was needed from the point on. It wasn't like Archie was moving from 704 Hauser street so we know that how it ends. Him taking care of Stephanie

it still burns me to this day that norman lear would not let cbs and carroll oconnor do a reunion special and than after doing nothing but badmouth mr oconnor for almost 20 years had the nerve to show up at his furniel what a hypicriteal a hole
