Movie New "Carrie" Trailer Released

Carrie Burns Down Theaters March 15, 2013
Posted by MrDisgusting
April 12, 2012

Casting is currently underway for Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s Carrie, which Sony has officially slated for release on March 15, 2013.

Kick-Ass and Let Me In‘s Chloë Moretz, who will also be in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, will star in the title role.

The Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa adaptation of the Stephen King thriller is “About the hyperkinetic teenager who gets pushed too far at the prom and wreaks havoc on her fellow high school students.

King’s bestselling book was turned into the 1976 film that starred Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Amy Irving and Piper Laurie as the repressive mother.

On Carrie, Aguirre-Sacasa will write a version that is more faithful to the King book than the earlier movie.

Carrie May Have Found Footage Elements, Plus Some Words From Chloë Moretz on the Project
Posted by EvanDickson
April 27, 2012

A couple of interesting tidbits today about the upcoming Kimberly Peirce directed remake of Carrie.

The first of which is that the film may contain a few found footage elements. Now, various sectors of Twitter are already in a tizzy about this – but the report doesn’t sound conclusive by any means.

And, even if this is correct, it doesn’t sound like the whole thing will be found footage.

This all comes from a talk MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum gave at the University of Denver.

Per an anonymous student, “The CEO of MGM, Roger Birnbaum, came and spoke at my university today… he made it sound like it’s going to be a 'found footage' type of film. The film is going to have interviews with the survivors of the prom incident, and focus on that take.

This could actually be faithful. As Peter Hall at Movies.com points out:

King’s original novel is interspersed with various 'official' documents recounting what happened on Carrie’s deadly prom night (a writing technique called epistolary, which is basically the literary equivalent of found footage), so if Aguirre-Sacasa’s script is indeed going back to the source material, the film focusing on 'interviews with the survivors of the prom incident' makes perfect sense.

The other tidbit of this story is the following quote star Chloë Moretz gave to Box Office Pro during a Dark Shadows interview.

It’s an amazing role, and I’m so excited to get in there and try to tackle it and see what I can change up. It’s already been done, and there’s already been the amazing, amazing Sissy Spacek version of it, but what I really want to do is spice it up and take a more modern, younger approach to it because I am going through what Carrie is going through.

She’s figuring out who she is, and I just really want to get in there and see what I can do, feel it out.

Carrie opens on March 15th, 2013.

*Update: Deadline has confirmed our exclusive that Julianne Moore is in talks to play Carrie's mom.

Exclusive: Sissy Spacek Thrilled by Potential for a New Carrie
by Edward Douglas
May 04, 2012

There are maybe a dozen classic horror films that fans would probably never want to see touched or remade including The Exorcist and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.

Brian de Palma's adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie, which introduced many to actress Sissy Spacek, has been transposed into other formats over the years, but no one's dared to make another theatrical film until now.

Horror fans may have been slightly unsure how to feel when MGM announced they were remaking De Palma's classic, even with the great casting of actresses like Chloë Moretz (Let Me In) and Julianne Moore tackling the roles of Carrie and her ultra-religious mother, and a stong female director like Kimberly Peirce at the helm, maybe because they're so used to beloved horror classics being ruined whenever someone tries to update them.

Sissy Spacek has been in New York doing press for her terrific new memoir My Extraordinary Ordinary Life and when Shock's companion site ComingSoon.net had a chance to interview her, they asked how she felt about them remaking a movie that still holds up quite well over 35 years since its initial release.

It would probably be a racier story if Spacek hated the idea of them doing a remake but like with everything else, she had a great attitude about the whole thing, including the idea of 15-year-old Chloë Moretz taking on the difficult title role.

"I think she's a wonderful actress," Spacek said and got even more excited when she learned that Julianne Moore would be playing the Piper Laurie role of Carrie's mother. "That's great!" she exclaimed.

"They hired a really wonderful director, very talented," she continued.

"It'll be interesting. Our film, it is what it is what it is, and it stood the test of time, but I think that's great, it's like an homage not only to the book but to the film, not only to Stephen King but to Brian De Palma. It's been made many times. There have been several television movies, 'Carrie 2,' two musicals! I remember thinking the first time there was a musical on Broadway, 'Oh my Gosh! The people who ordinarily go to the theaters, that's not really the audience.' The first audience of 'Carrie' has aged now, so I think out of curiosity, I think it's cool.

As I understand it, they're not remaking our film; they're going back to the source material, to the book.
"

And Ms. Spacek even suggested she'll probably go to see that movie whenever it comes out, so if that isn't a ringing endorsement, then we don't know what is.

Moretz: Carrie Remake Has a Black Swan Quality To It
by Ryan Turek
June 15, 2012

Chloë Moretz spoke to Vanity Fair about her upcoming turn in Carrie, a remake being directed by Kimberly Peirce.

I am changing everything about me - my hair, my look,” the actress told the magazine.

I’m doing my own take on the character. The script is totally different from the original. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version - it messes with your mind. You’ll see things, and you don’t know if you’ve seen them.

First Official Look at a Bloody Chloë Moretz as Carrie, Julianne Moore as Margaret
by Ryan Turek
August 22, 2012

Next year will see the release of Carrie, a new take on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Filling the shoes of Carrie White: Chloë Moretz, who will be joined on screen by Julianne Moore as Margaret White.

Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first official photos of this duo in the film. And yes, we're already getting a shot of a bloody Carrie White because, why not, right?

Moore looks like a natural as Margaret and we've never had a problem with that casting choice.

The film, directed by Kimberly Peirce, is expected to hit March 15, 2013.

I do like that they're "destroying the town" that's always been one of my favorite parts of the book.

De Palma Tells Fango He's "Excited" about Carrie Remake
by Chris Alexander
Oct 16, 2012

Director Kimberly Pierce’s impending remake/adaptation of Carrie, Stephen King’s bestselling novel and Brian De Palma’s immortal 1976 filmed version, was previewed in a panel at this weekend’s past New York Comic Con.

But prior to this, director De Palma talked with Fango about his own personal feelings about the project:

I know Kimberly Pierce, I’ve known her for twelve years,” De Palma told FANGORIA in Toronto.

I met her in Paris when she was on a press junket for BOYS DON’T CRY. We spent some time in New York together, we used to go to the theatre together. She’s a bright, talented person. I tried to encourage her to make a movie very quickly after the success of BOYS and it took her years to find right material…but anyway, she contacted me when she decided to do CARRIE.

We discussed the right way to approach it, who she was going to cast and we had a few discussions about it and basically I gave her my blessing. She’s a very talented girl and I’m really excited to see what she does. It will be more like the book, I think, which is Sue Snell’s testimony which puts Carrie in kind of brackets…

This is the second remake of Carrie, or the third adaptation of King's book.

Agreed! Leave well enough alone! Nobody could play Mrs. White like Piper Laurie! No improvement needed. But I suppose remakes are for the younger generation who have never seen the originals.
