Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Guest Star on 'New Girl'

The basketball legend and all-time NBA leading scorer will appear in a cameo role in the Fox sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel.


The episode will see former Latvian league basketball player Winston (Lamorne Morris) meet the 64-year-old while taking a job at a radio station.

Abdul-Jabbar gave some backstory behind Winston's failed basketball career, saying: "If you don't mind going some place where you have to fly forever and then take a train, you can play professional basketball.

"Anybody who goes that far and then gets rejected is, ahem, pretty pathetic."

He added that he was already a fan of Deschanel and enjoyed taking part on the show.

"I've always thought Zooey was funny in a goofy kind of way," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I enjoy her take on humor. She's got a different slant on things that just comes across in a totally refreshing way."

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has previously appeared in a variety of TV shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Scrubs and Everybody Loves Raymond.
