You got some of them wrong. "Gilligan's Island" wasn't even a top ten show let alone number # 1 in '65-66. The highest it ever ranked was # 18 in the Nielsens in '64-65. "Happy Days" was # 1 only in 1976-77. "Laverne and Shirley" was the top ranked show of '77-78 and '78-79. "Three's Company" was never the # 1 show on TV either. The highest it ever charted was # 2.

TC WAS the #01 show. Out of all the research I've done, Sitcoms Online is the only place where L&S is listed as number #01 in the 78-79 season. TC barely edged out L&S. And 60% of all American teleivisions at the time were watching an episode of TC, making it the most watched half hour program in the HISTORY of Television.

And I'll have to look into the 1977-78 season. I've only heard that the top 3 of that season were in orderof how they were aired on ABC Tuesday Nights, and it was HD, LS, and then TC

The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows lists Laverne & Shirley #1 for the 1978-1979 season with a 30.5 rating, Three's Company was #2 with a 30.3. What's your source? I don't think anybody can say with 100% accuracy which show was truly #1 that season.

My source was "Come and Knock On Our Door" and Pavanbadal's site on that. And I've seen different numbers putting TC at 30.1 and L&S at 30.0

People Magazine's Entertainment Almanac as well as the E ! True Hollywood Story on TC backs "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows" up. A lot of people refer to "Three's Company" as a number one sitcom. Which it was in the 1979-80, 81-82, and 82-83 seasons. But it was never the top rated show on television. Newsmagazines, dramas, etc. were always ahead of it. "Friends" is the same way. Over the last thirty years only 15 shows have ever ranked # 1 in the Nielsens. "All in the Family"; "Happy Days"; "Laverne and Shirley"; "60 Minutes"; "Dallas"; "Dynasty"; "The Cosby Show"; "Roseanne"; "Cheers"; "Home Improvement"; "Seinfeld"; "ER"; "Who wants to be a Millionaire"; and "Surivor 2". "Three's Company" wasn't among them.

I will have to agree with The Gooch. While the Chris Mann TC book is wonderful there are errors and mis-information in it.

Still, the Chris Mann book isn't the only one I seen it in. There was a TV Guide site. But I think they could have been tied. Because som official sources have said: "Laverne and Shirley": Number #1:1977-1979, and "Three's Company: Number #01 1978-1979

Yeah, I wouldn't use "Come and Knock on Our Door" as the last word, either. I noticed a lot of little errors in that book. "The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows" seems much more reliable to me.

By the way, you have "The Ropers" listed at #8 for the 77-78 season. "The Ropers" didn't premiere until the 78-79 season (it actually premiered in early 1979). Also, I'm pretty sure "I Love Lucy" was #2 for its final season, not #1. The only series to end its final season at #1 is "Andy Griffith" (and "Seinfeld", depending on if you count the various specials leading up to the finale).

No. There have been three shows to end at number one: "I Love Lucy", TAGS, and "Seinfeld". "The Lucy Show" ended it's run at #02

And opps, "The Ropers" is in the wrong place like you said.
