Aerosmith Announces 'The Global Warming Tour' Summer 2012
Steven Tyler and Aerosmith Announce Summer Tour
3/26/2012 by Erik Pedersen The tables will be turned this summer as America gets its chance to judge Steven Tyler’s performances. The sophomore "American Idol" judge and his longtime band Aerosmith will hit the stage for The Global Warming Tour starting June 16 in Minneapolis. The first 18 arena dates were announced Monday — Tyler’s 63rd birthday — with a second leg to follow. “The old Aerosmith is back with a new vengeance, and we will kick your ass and make out with your mothers,” Tyler says. Live Nation is promoting the tour, which is the Boston-based Rock and Roll Hall of Fame quintet’s first of trip through the U.S. and Canada in two years. It will include stops July 1 at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island and Aug. 6 at the Hollywood Bowl. Tickets go on sale starting March 30 and 31 at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Aerosmith’s signing to Columbia Records, having formed in Boston in 1970. The band has won four Grammys, boasts 18 platinum albums and eight Top 10 singles and ranks as the 13th-biggest-selling act in U.S. history, with more than 66.5 million albums sold. The tour will feature its classic lineup of Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer. Says bassist Hamilton, “We're going to break out the classics, the hits and maybe even some of the new ones we've been banging out in the studio.” The opener for this summer’s announced shows is fellow ’70s-rooted act Cheap Trick, which supported Aerosmith at its July 2010 show in Irvine, Calif. The Illinois power-pop foursome also boasts all of its original members: Rick Nielsen, Robin Zander, Tom Petersson and Bun E. Carlos.
