Default "Rosie" Gets Owned at OWN

OWN has canceled "The Rosie Show."

Cabler had brought Rosie O'Donnell on board last year to host a daily talkshow from Chicago, but the series never connected with viewers. The final episode will tape Tuesday and air March 30.

"The Rosie Show," which ran 7 p.m. weekdays, was averaging a meager 190,000 viewers per episode.

"As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience," said network topper Oprah Winfrey. "I'm grateful to Rosie and the dedicated 'Rosie Show' team for giving it their all."

Series debuted Oct. 10 and drew 497,000 for its premiere on OWN -- episode was also simulcast on four other Discovery nets -- but viewer totals quickly fell after that.

In January, OWN realized it needed to make adjustment to "The Rosie Show" in order to goose ratings. Shane Farley was hired as an exec producer and the Harpo Studio set was given a face lift. Neither move ultimately made much of a difference.

"The Rosie Show" is produced by Harpo Studios in association KidRo Prods. and SantaBu Prods.

OWN has seen some ratings upticks of late, specifically last Sunday when Winfrey interviewed Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, for "Oprah's Next Chapter." Episode drew 3.5 million, the most for any show in the history of the network.

One of the few other bright spots for OWN is the St. Louis-based reality series "Welcome to Sweetie Pies." Otherwise, net continues to have difficulty attracting auds after launching more than a year ago.

Through last September, Discovery had spent $254 million on the network -- without much hint of a return on its hefty investment.

How many people actually get OWN?? I dont and dont know anyone else who does. If Rosie was on at a decent time on a regular channel I bet she would bring in the numbers!! I will never forget my friend Bill Nelson who couldnt visit too long because it was Rosie's last show (1999?) and he couldnt miss it.

I'll take that bet......Rosie was good when she just dealt in comedy, once she turned things political she was no longer a tv darling.

i think Rosie's fan base is pretty small and won't be getting any bigger mainly because she keeps opening her mouth.

what I don't understand is why OWN wasn't launched with a NEW Oprah Winfrey talk show, and they probably should have doubled it up with a weekly series with her interviewing celebrities - it probably would have got the network off to a better start.

- and nothing against Oprah, but I do get that channel and would never turn to it.

And by then, she stopped being Queen of Nice.

I HATE the fact that MILLIONS and MILLIONS of former fans of ROSIE stopped watching anything she did once she came out as a LESBIAN!

If that were true you would not hate it. At all. I personally have no respect for her because of her idiotic statements in support of 9/11 twoof.

It has nothing to do with the fact that she's a Lesbian. It's the fact she has a big mouth and she doesn't know when to keep it shut.

Did anyone even see this show? I wondered if it was different in tone from her other show.

At this point, Rosie has to be feeling pretty well rejected by the public. Her first talk show ended, largely because of her insistence upon political rhetoric. Her experiment with the variety show bombed after ONE airing (!). Her magazine tanked, and now her second talk show is flushed after five months.

The only thing that she can hope for is that time (maybe five years or so) will elapse and people will be ready to give her another chance. And I agree that any political statements she wants to make should be kept out of her shows...she has every right to voice them, of course, but it appears no one (including myself) wants to hear them.

This is true...what she does behind closed doors is none of my damn business. She's a lesbian, so what? Ellen is a lesbian, but she keeps her mouth shut most of the time...that's the difference between Rosie O'Donnel and Ellen DeGeneres.

Yea, Ellen's a nice person. That's why her talk show is successful and she doesn't get the backlash that Rosie does.

And I used to like Rosie back in the 90's. She's changed a lot since then.

Surprise, Surprise. Donald Trump Not Shocked That Rosie O'Donnell's Talk Show Was Canceled

Today 9:33 AM PDT by Peter Gicas

Donald Trump vs. Rosie O'Donnell, round...oh, who knows at this point?

Sure enough, the real estate mogul has once again taken a jab at his longtime nemesis.

While calling in to Fox & Friends this morning, the Celebrity Apprentice star certainly didn't hold anything back when the topic of O'Donnell's recently defunct show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network made its way into the conversation.

"Frankly, that was just going to happen. I knew it immediately when they announced it," said Trump. "Rosie fails at everything."

Of course, everything might a bit of a stretch considering the woman did win multiple Emmys for her earlier daytime talk show that aired from 1996 to 2002.

But Trump insisted this definitely won't be the last time we see O'Donnell on the air.

"Some moron will come and hire her again to do something else and that will fail," he added. "At some point, let her rest. Let her go away."

But what do you really think, Donald?
