Default Jerry Was Not Happy About Reason on Show For Why He Was Called, "Beaver."

In "Family Scrapbook" we learn through reminiscing clips that Beaver got his nickname because when Wally tried to say 'Beaver" when he started talking it came out, "Tweeter." The family thought "Beaver" was a more appropriate name.

Jerry has said that he thought the reasoning given on the show for how he got his nickname was "Lame." He was really hoping that the writers could come up with something better, and I agree with him 100% The cast got the script and on the read through, Jerry thought after six years, they could have been more creative with how he got the name, 'Beaver." He likely mentioned this at the time of filming. My view is that because the series was ending the writers did not, or could not, come up with a better idea for how Beaver's name originated.

The idea for the SHOW was to create a family oriented show based on the real-life experiences that the producers had as children, or through the eyes of their own kids. Every episode was drawn for at least one true life experience. They also wanted a patriarch with a strong moral code and Hugh's theology background blended perfectly!

The nuclear family seen through the eyes of a child was very important to Mr. Connelly and Mr. Mosher. Bob Mosher kept a remembrance journal of people who had an influence on his life throughout his childhood through adult years, and when he was in the service, he befriended a "G.I" who was nicknamed "Beaver!" This guy was funny, and had a sense of gullibility, so Joe and Bob thought, lets do a show through a child's eyes where a kid gets into amusing and sometimes mischievous situations with nurturing parents.

Bob Mosher remembered his "Beaver" friend from the service, and a show classic was born!

What would have been hilarious: the reason he got the name was because, while he was teething, he was caught chewing on a table leg!

"Leave It to Beaver" was a stroke of genius and it has a very important place in television history: Beaver Cleaver was the first main character in a TV show to be an honest to goodness baby boomer.

Cool

I like the episode in the first season when Beaver's teacher calls him Theodore and he insists on being called Beaver. Miss Canfield asked him "Is Beaver your given name?" And he replied "Yes Ma'am. My brother given it to me."

Something that I thought was even stranger about this episode was some of the pictures found in the scrapbook.

There happened to be a picture in the Cleavers' scrapbook of Beaver & Larry sneaking into Larry's sister's bedroom. Maybe the Mondellos had a secret surveillance camera in her bedroom, caught a picture of the boys sneaking in, sent it to Ward & June, who thought it was so cute that they'd stick it in the scrapbook!

There was also a picture of Wally in the scrapbook, no discernible background other than the living room or den, and Ward immediately knew that it was when he'd tried to talk Wally into "gladhanding" his classmates while running for Class President. Those Cleavers have some memories!

I was just going to say that. So even in the 1st show, they said it was started by Wally.
