I'll have to go with Ethel. I used to be the landlady for an apartment complex a few years back and I can't tell you how many times I was referred to as Ethel Mertz...to me, it was a great compliment.

Fred was funnier as the grumpy, wisecracking Scrooge, than Ethel was as the blabbing busybody who declared she would not go along with Lucy's schemes, but always did. Ethel was a better person than Fred, but Fred was just funnier in his role.
