Default Brady Bunch Episode/Scene No Longer Aired

Ok, I remember either a Brady Bunch episode or scene that is no longer aired, maybe it has been cut or banned. Cindy & Bobby were on their way out and were walking through the kitchen in bathrobes when Alice asked where they were going; they replied that they were going to a friend's house whos father was a Dr. and told them it was healthy for them to sunbathe in the nude. Alice ordered them to open their robes and then she made them go upstairs to put on clothes. I am not a sicko, I am a true Brady fan and have seen every episode ten times over and this one has not been on in years. Does anyone remember this so that I know I am not going crazy?!

Default Brady Bunch Has More Holes in it Now Than Swiss Cheese!

Greetings,

Yes, that scene is cut from "Goodbye Alice Hello" (Where she takes the waitress job) It was removed from all American syndicated versions of Brady Bunch in the mid 80's and also from Nick at Night versions. (Someone at the "Brady World" site posted this info to me) They were from Australia I believe, and in Australia that scene is still intact.

Another scene that I am trying to place the episode identity on is either in "A Camping We Will Go" or one of the "Grand Canyon" Epiosdes where the girls are in the sleeping bag and Alice can't get out and Cindy says, "Alice, but that's the sleeping bag that the zipper always sticks on." It might be from the Camping Episode where she thinks there is a snake in the sleeping bag, but you'd never know from the Nick at Night cut up crap that's on now.

Nick at Night has restored some footage however that syndicates still leave out. Bobby getting stuck in the stockade in "Un Underground Movie", the "Impractical Joker" scene of Mike & Greg in the garage teaching Myron to run the maze. (The scene that Reed hated, and he was smashed during rehersals!) Other footage in "Sorry Right Number" includes Peter helping his friend Jerry on the phone with the "new Math"...I can list others

A scene I have never seen is in "Slumber Party" Before the girls play "Truth or Dare, they play a game called "HA!" where they giggle & laugh at each other. Nick at Nite omits the line where Marcia talks to Mr. Randolph about the drawing and she says, "But I doodled George Washington, I didn't doodle Mrs. Dentin!" The biggest and worst cuts on Nick at Nite is they cut out ALL the scene in Impractical Joker where Myron gets loose in Carol's bedroom and the complete omission of Alice "Skiing" in the backyard in "Father of the Year."

Some people are complaining that...shockingly, even Columbia House was releasing edited tapes of episodes that were supposed to be uncut! They do have about 30 episodes or so of Brady Bunch so maybe if you guys have them, you could post some more missing scenes or footage that hasn't been scene since syndication! The only way that this "missing footage" is gonna be restored is if a network does a special anniversery edition or the series comes out on VHS/DVD. (A premium channel that would show uncut classic sitcomes would be another option) but that would take business away from TV Land (Can't compalin there! LOL!) but I don't know how many people would be willing to pay extra for a channel, when the footage should be there in the first place!

The "nude" scene was definitely in the first "Brady" syndication cycle in the 1970s -- too bad they removed it during the 80s. The skiing scene was also in the 70s syndicated episodes, but removed for the next cycle. I'd be curious to see how many minutes were cut for the first cycle (one is standard) and how many minutes were cut for the second.

The Columbia House "Brady" episodes seem uncut to me, although I've heard that CH mistakenly released edited episodes of "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Good Times".

When they added the cut scenes from "Father of the Year" back in, it was obvious that they couldn't find the original negative of those scenes and had to go to a 16 mm print or something. The restored scenes are very grainy and faded, compared to the rest of the scenes. This happened in one or two other restored CH episodes as well.

The "Ha!" game is included in the CH version of the slumber party episode.

I have the camping episode uncut, and the sleeping bag scene is included.

The syndicated version of "Now a Word from Our Sponsor" eliminated the whole explanation of Myrna vs. Meeeerna (Carol's acting coach friend). So the exchange at the end of the episode between commercial director Skip Farnum and his assistant made no sense. The explanation is in the N@N episode, but I'm sure they pulled something else out to compensate. From what I understand, N@N needs their episodes to be a different length from the syndicated versions, so they had Paramount recut the episodes from scratch. They did the same thing with "Three's Company", where N@N shows scenes that aren't in the broadcast version of the shows (ususally the tag).

Yeah, I think there was a thread on this a few months back. Someone was insisting that it never happened, and a couple of us who are old enough to have seen it were insisting that it did. The scene was done very innocently, BTW. Alice says something like "Those aren't your bathing suits, those are your birthday suits!", and she quickly closes the robes. She did NOT know that they weren't wearing suits when she opened the robes -- she was checking to make sure that they were wearing the new bathing suits that Carol had bought them.

I guess things were more innocent 30 years ago.

Remember the episode where Peter has a major crush on Jans' friend Kerry? And he and Greg do that Cyrano act to make her like him. Nick at Nite chopped up that one big time.

This may be a bit off topic, but I've always wondered where that term "New Math" came from? I've heard it on Wonder Years before and I gotta tell you:

Its a curious term that, kinda like the "Reds" of the McCarthy Era in the 50s I think. Communism was such a big thing though back then and paranoia was high.

Time for Three's Company.

The original poster was most impressive.

Welcome to the board.

I believe that back in the 1960s, the way math was taught in the public schools was fundamentally changed. I'm not clear on the differences between the old and new methods, but I do know that the new method was referred to as "New Math". I've seen references to "New Math" in some of the old "Peanuts" comic strips, too.

Thanks to all for verifying. It's a shame that N@N cuts out footage; at first, I didn't realize they were doing this and then it occured to me that there were scenes which I were remembering that I never see anymore...I thought I was imagining them!

That skiing scene in Father of the Year, was omitted by Nick at Nite. As long as I can remember it was always seen in syndication at least in the episodes that ran in the late 80's and early 90's.

Another scene that has been forever deleted from syndication and Nick at Nite is in the episode, Will the Real Jan Brady Please Stand Up? After the kids make fun of Jan's wig, they cut to a scene where Mike and Carol are watching a movie and Carol is crying they make some jokes and then embrace on the couch.

In A Fistful of Reasons, there's a scene where Mike and Carol are in the family room with Cindy and they are helping her with the tounge twisters and Carol states that she is from Swamscott, Massachusetts, I don't think Nick at Nite shows that scene and I've never seen it in syndication.

Default scenes cut.

the hawaii episodes pass the taboo has a cut where bobby asks peter what are bikinis peter reply you'll learn boy will you learn is cut.actually that whole scene is gone. also part two is cut where marcia is looking through the viewer. but severial scenes that are not on syndacated cuts are restored.
the best way to get the shows fully uncut is find 35 milimeter collectors
who sell them on bootleg video.
another show that was cut on fox family was the episode home is where the heart was from the partidge family.
its cut really bad. n@n ran this complete where fox family cut it.
they have restored the i love lucy episodes why not restore the brady bunch too?

Sad Other Scene Inconsistencies in Brady Bunch

"Sorry Right Number" in syndication has the scene with Carol telling Mike about the "new carpeting" when he is pacing back and forth in the master bedroom (Cut from Nick at Nite)Nick at Nite also omits the line about Carol helping Martha with her dress

"Fistful of Reasons" in syndication has Alice helping Cindy with her tounge-twister book ("I'm really busy now honey, I have to go get ready for shupper.") (Cut from Nick at Nite)

"Fistful of Reasons" on Nick at Nite restores a scene where Mike comes home and Carol tells him about Peter's fight with Buddy (Cut from syndication)

"The Babysitters" on all versions cuts out the line where Mike or Carol tells Marcia about a gas leak from the stove (not sure of exact dialoge here)and asks her if she or Greg know what to do, and she says, "But our stove's electric"

"Greg Get's Grounded" has a scene on Nick at Nite with one of Peter and Bobby's frogs covered by a baseball cap. Alice is hanging clothes and she sees the cap moving and it spooks her! (I never remembered this from syndication cause it was cut long ago) I always thought Alice wasn't even IN this episode! (The ending on Nick at Nite is bizzare) it runs the pre-tag credits after the frogs jump on the pizza, and you miss Greg's final lines before the tag. "I don't think we'll be eating this tonight, and he was in 34th place too!"

"Juliet is the Sun" on Nick at Nite has a scene where Marcia is arguing with Jan and Cindy about closet space in their bedroom, but it omits the scene where Mike comes home when Marcia and Harold Axelrod are rehersing their lines for the first time and he says, "Romeo wears glasses?"

"What Goes Up?" omits a scene with Greg on stilts talking to Bobby, encouraging them to try them out. (There is even a picture of this scene in the Growing up Brady Book)I don't think this scene is included in either Nick at Nite or syndicated versions!

"Tattletale" on Nick at Nite restores a scene where Cindy rats Greg out in front of Carol for ripping his clothes while playing basketball (Cut from Syndication)

"Her Sister's Shadow" on Nick at Nite omits the funniest line that was always in syndication. When Jan is practicing her pom-pom routine on the patio, Peter and Bobby mock her in the background and Carol suggests they help her, Alice says, "Oh you boys would make lovely pom-pom girls!" Peter says, "I'm not gonna be any pom-pom girl." and Bobby answers back, "I'm not even gonna be a pom-pom boy!"

Some dialogue is also cut from Nick at Nite about Bobby's encounter with the aliens in "Out of this World" when they talk about their size (not sure of the exact wording)

"Amatur Night" omits in syndication the part where Alfred (The platter salesmen) calls Jan to tell her that the platter is ready, Jan knows her parents are in the room and makes it sound like she is talking to a date. Syndicate always left in the part about Carol telling Jan ("Your freind Alfie called about you breaking your date with him.") but unless you saw the Nick at Nite episode or have the uncut version, her conversation makes no sense.

"Room at the Top" restores footage on Nick at Nite with Greg telling Peter and Bobby that he is moving into the attic. (The scene where they are outside carrying boxes) this is cut from syndication. Also cut from all versions is a scene where he decides to let Marcia have the attic and tells Peter and Bobby, "Ok you guys have to move my stuff back into our room." Peter says, "Our Room?" and Bobby says, "He must of banged his head on the rafter!"

"Subject Was Noses" includes added footage on Nick at Nite where they all paint the bedroom. (A lot is cut out in syndication) omitted is Cindy and Bobby's tic-tac-toe game and Mike says, "Didn't I tell you kids no games? Besides that's paint for the window trim."

"Today I am a Freshman" restores the additional footage of Peter and Bobby working on the volcano and Alices lines about being covered in mud. A running gag used in this epiosde is the line, "You get any of that on the patio, Alice will kill you." This has been cut from syndication. She says the line herself after sending the boys to clean up for dinner but syndication does not show it

"Our Son the Man" has a scene cut from all versions that I remember as a kid. That's the one where Greg is allowed to move into the den and he comes outside with Mike's desk chair and he tells Alice that he's moving into the den and "this is cool chair, I need something to sit on." She says, Greg if your father catches you with that chair you won't be doing any sitting." Also, the long ago, deleated from all versions, "Sleeping bag" scene with Alice getting stuck in the bag and Cindy saying "Alice, that's the sleeping bag the zipper always sticks on is from THIS episode! (Thank You TV GUY!!!) Greg gets her unstuck because "It took a man to do it"

"Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" includes the visit from the mailman Mr. Stokey when the telescope is delivered on Nick at Night, but this is not in syndication

"Lights Out" on Nick at Night has restored footage of Cindy in Mike and Carol's bed and telling them about the "dissapearing lady" We learn a little more about her fear of dark places. Syndication does not show this scene

"Cincinnati Kids" on Nick at Nite restores several scenes of the family going through the park which is no longer in syndication

"The Hawaii Episodes" on Nick at Nite restore much of the first part episode where you see more of the background shots. Added scenes of the kids on the beach have also been restored as well as Greg telling Professor Whithead that "your beans are burning." Syndicates took out a lot of these scenes.

"54-40 & Fight" and "Katchoo" use the same scene with Tiger after having his bath gets stamps stuck on him! I know that this is in Nick versions, I don't think syndication shows it. Syndication does not show additional dialog of Mike explaining Jan's allergy to the boys for the first time. (Peter being allergic to arithmetic is cut out)

"Bobby's Hero" has restored footage on Nick at Night with Bobby chasing Cindy in the backyard pretending to be Jessie James. Shamefully, they take out the line of when the family is taking about hero's when eating pizza. Greg says, he likes Wilt Chamberlin, and Bobby's full line is, "Yea some chance I have of growing up to be 7 foot 2...and Black! (Nick at Night, takes out "and Black" which is left in syndication) (I must comment about this Politically Correct move IMO. Nick at Nite has really become the "Disney Network!")

So, with few exceptions, your talking about maybe a matter of seconds to one minute of cut dialoge per scene just to fill more commercial time! Absurd!

So many classic scenes, gone! What a shame! Hopefully, Columbia House will release some more volumes so we can see uncut episodes. Currently the 10 volumes available have a total of 40 uncut episodes on them. Columbia House thankfully hasn't botched this series like they did with Good Times and Diff'rent Strokes. With those two series, there are a couple volumes with edited episodes.

Then of course there are the four volumes of Paramount tapes that have an additional 3 episodes that are uncut that Columbia House doesn't offer.

So we have only 43 uncut episodes that we can see.

Default More Brady Bunch Cut Scene Comparisons

"The Dropout" on Nick at Nite restores a scene of Greg talking to Peter and Bobby in the garage about how he is gonna be a major leager ball player, but omits a line in syndication where he asked Mike, "What's the biggest bonus a ball player ever got?" and Mike's response about how much the Angels paid a guy. Nick at Nite also restores footage about where his History teacher calls home and informs Mike and Carol that he didn't turn in his assignment. Syndication chops off additional dialog after Mike says, "I don't get that, he's always done real well." and Carol says, "Not this time."

Default More Scene/Line Cuts

"The Possible Dream" (Marcia's Diary Episode) omits the funny line about some of the books from the Friend & Need Society going to Elmo's Drive-in...("In Connection with Elmo's Bookstore.") This is cut from all versions. Nick at Nite/TV Land also omits Alice's line when she is telling Marcia about how she kept a diary and "recorded every romance she ever had in it, of course that was the shortest chapter in the book."
