I still don't understand the explosion from the crowd for this scene

Well, if you know about tv shows being filmed in front of a studio audience, then you know there was a different audience for each taping. The crowd who saw this scene being taped were enjoying it for the first time in person. Most certainly it would be different to see George dancing in person than it would be to see it done on television.

Also, if you have ever been to a tv taping, you know you are directed by the floor person to laugh, cheer, gasp, "awwww"...basically have some reaction to certain scenes. For example the guy (or girl) will tell the audience what the next scene will be and if there is anything that is funny, laugh loud or go wild, clap or whatever. Sometimes when the scene is not what the director wants, it will be done again and again. Regardless of how many times the audience has already seen the same scene, the floor person will ask the audience to laugh real hard as if they are seeing it happen for the first time. The director will then check each of the scenes and pick out the one scene that has the best quality as far as how the actors come off and how well the audience participated. When I attended a tv pilot taping there was one scene that was funny, but not over the top funny. We were told to laugh harder for the next scene because the director wanted more of a reaction.
